Seems like the Northgate country club may be trying to upgrade some of the facilities with dues increasing and newer ownership? We looked at pine forest young executive and it was way out of our price range. Wife doesn't like hearthstone as much.

Following up here. I ended up joining. I wanted somewhere convenient, wasn't tens-to-hundreds of thousands of dollars, but most importantly I could/would use during the week. Initiation was $9000 and monthly dues are $210 (they say initiation is going up 7/1). I've been officially a member a week this Saturday and, in that time, I will have been 3x. I took my wife with me to "tour" it for lunch last week and she was pleasantly surprised. It's obvioisly not a real golf club experience, but it mostly fits the bill while we're living in Oak Forest and I think it's going to get a good bit of use. I looked hard at Champions and Golfcrest (in-laws live in Friendswood) but both are too far and pricey for, at most, weekend golf. Champions is an incredible value, though. It's definitely pricier than the basic sim places that are popping up but I occasionally travel to cities that have other intown locations and I/we will definitely be hanging out there from time to time, as well.

I'm over at IGC as well - feel free to send me a PM if you ever want to get a round in together. It's a great setup.

Interested in Woodforrest as well. Considering a move out there, do they have any discounted initiation or social golf for residents of community ?

One of my college roommates joined out there last year, 20K to join with 2K down (gets you use of the range and practice area while on waitlist), was on a 9 month waitlist. I had heard from an old high school friend who works out there it was going up. I play out there a bit and always in immaculate condition.

I'm a member. We are in the middle of getting a new clubhouse and will be ready spring 2027 or so. Initiation has jumped to 50k and there are rumors it's going to 75.

Last I heard, there was a pretty large waitlist.

No discounts for residents that I have heard of.

Re: PFCC, a 25% deposit is pretty steep but would imagine the wait list is not very long if that is what they are asking. Not sure it's worth $50k given the club house and lack of social due to the location, but the golf course redo is good. And that is just my opinion and you can say that about most private clubs.

It benefits from a lack of options on the west side for sure.

At the beginning of Covid and during the oil business drop I joined Pine Forest for a $3500 initiation fee. They were begging for members. Strange how quickly private club fortunes change.
They are starting to get a little too big for their britches in my opinion. They will eventually price me out.

Kid played at Falcon Point for his first Beltway Jr Golf tourney, place was nice enough but the prickly bushes and preponderance of lakes with no sort of map to show where they are made the course pretty tough. Kid would hit a fine tee shot and the ball would just vanish....might be in the lake, could be in the worlds most prickly shrub.

None of these kids are Tiger Woods and the pin placements were tough as well.

Still a fun day and decent lesson to him to not hit driver off the tee so much when you don't know what is over the next hill.

You can play the whole course without driver

Odd little course

Do they still have the uphill par 3 with bunkers from tee to green - like a ww2 bombing range ?

I didn't see any tee to green bunkers, I think they also cut out some of the prickly ass grass/shrubs....that crap was trying to tear my shirt when briefly looking for aforementioned bermuda triangle balls.

That's probably 17. Used to be the highest point in Fort Bend County.

Since it opened in '84, they've taken a ton of bunkers and pampus grass bushes out. Water comes into play on 17/18 holes. 6771 yds from the back is deceiving. Most greens are elevated, so you're not going to run one up. With the way the lakes cut in, maybe 1 Par 5 is gettable.
What we do in life echoes in eternity.

Falcon Point prices actually seem low comparatively. The will even chop the initiation in half for a 2 yr commitment. I don't know the monthly dues at other places though.

Full Golf $685/month + $3000 [initiation fee]

Signature Golf $565 + $2000 [initiation fee]
Signature golf grants you access Tues-Thurs all day, Friday, and Sunday after 1PM and no play on Saturday. Access to all other club amenities, any time. Just stipulations on tee time access.

I would just say it's heavily invested in maximizing revenue across its network of courses, which generally means a ton of members, lots of traffic for a private course, lots of crossover of members at other courses, and raising rates every time they think they can squeeze a buck. Basically, private but still some of the headaches that come with public courses. That said, some experiences are better than others

Its an investment group that has a national network of courses. Known for squeezing profit out of purchased clubs over quality of condition and customer service to existing membership.

I'm pretty sure these clubs have been talking about before but any info on them would be great. The wife and I will be moving back to Houston EOY and looking to join a club - golf for myself and social for my wife.

We're deciding between league city and sugar land right now and I'm looking at Sugar Creek, Riverbend and Mag Creek. I know Mag Creek is an invited clubs club but the course looked great when we checked it out. Sugar Creek and Riverbend also looked great when we checked the area out.

Any info would be great and specifically looking for clubhouse amenities/offerings and community. TIA!

Wife has some family in League City, but we really like the places we've checked out in Sugar Land too.

Got any info on the clubs I mentioned?

Not at all, honestly never even heard of them, but I'm not a country club kind of guy.

Riverbend is a good golf club. Depending on your age, could be a good social club as well, but seems more golf oriented.
