True but in doing so he's done a ton of damage to his reputation. Not sure he needed to go scorched earth on the league that's helped make him a multi-millionaire.
I agree. But it looks like he may have succeeded in his goals with the Tour. And time will tell if he's able to rehabilitate his image. Just for starters, the timing of the release of the comments is curious, considering they were supposedly made last year. Phil may come out and say he approved their release to bring everything to a head while the Tour could still prevent the defections. In short, a bunch of dudes were ready to leave and it is only because of Phil pulling the pin on this grenade that it didn't happen. Phil's both the villain and the hero!
If it's a dire money situation for Phil, he's not going to benefit from changes made to the Tour. With the exception of the PGA Champ (big exception, I know), he hasn't played great golf the last couple of years.
I think "getting concessions" was a way for him to back out and declare victory. I don't know if he heard from his sponsors and they said they weren't subsidizing blood money, or what happened, but this is weird timing for sure.
I have been a huge Phil fan for the last 30 years and was always more pro-Phil than Tiger. However, I've always had a fear that he had a bit of David Sims (from Tin Cup) in him and these last couple of weeks have thrown me for a loop.
He blocked all the No Laying Up guys on social media so he doesn't handle criticism very well. I hope he does a long sit down interview with someone soon to put things back together.
