Agree. ACC is a cool course with incredible views for tv. Austin deserves a tour stop of some sort

Sad this is the final year for this tournament. Austin CC is a perfect match play course and is fun to watch.

What a disappointment. This is my favorite tourney of the year outside the majors. One of the few appointment watchings for regular play for me.

Burns with a blowout for the win. Adding him and Young to the Ryder Cup team will be nice.

I blame the city of Austin.

I assume.......$$$$

ACC is not owned by the city, hope that helps.

The members hate it because they lose several months of playing. ACC didn't try very hard to get a new sponsor because the members don't want it there anymore, and haven't in quite some time.

The first part was just me being factious.

But definitely makes sense for the members not wanting it there.

Saw a crazy stat. Sam Burns had over 100 feet more of putts made than the next closest guy(Scheffler) in the final 4.

Lots of angles to this move. Yes, the members are split but they did come back with hosting terms that met what the PGA had been asking for. However, in the meantime, the PGA is still trying to drive increased cash flow to counter LIV. Dell brought in Intel as a partner for a multi-year sponsorship offer, but the PGA only wants a 1 year deal because they are trying to pimp out and soak this calendar date for all it's worth. It's a great date 2 weeks before the Masters; stars want their final tune-up then a week off. And that deal that Dell and Intel offered isn't big enough to entice the PGA to lock in multiple years

So big picture, that date is out for bid to drive maximum cash to battle LIV, and that's really why it is going away. Bidders like Jim Crane trying to get Houston to the spring are in play.

So LIV fanboys, enjoy some of the consequences. That cash is gotta come from somewhere.

Again outside of maybe 1 person I've yet to see a "LIV fan boy" on this board.

It's also extremely convenient yet not accurate to claim the PGA was doing this with countering LIV in mind. That's utter bull***** This has been a long time coming and fractures happened/butts got hurt way before DJ defected and the rest of the bigger names began jumping.

Fact of the matter is they need to maximize cash from this date, which is absolutely choice. Best regular tour stop date of the entire spring. Every big name that is healthy is gonna play, These $25 million purses gotta get funded somehow.
Bunk Moreland

Agree with that completely. The ACC faction dicking around ultimately worked to the benefit of the PGA now. It's definitely a high demand golf weekend.

So in what world is this not LIV related? The money game has changed. A great event is being killed for $$$ to fund bigger purses. Period, ACC agreed to terms. Dell/Intel offered a multi-year deal. But it's gonna die anyway because the PGA believes there is more money to be had elsewhere

PGAT only giving ACC 3 million a year seems like a slap in the face to me? I have no idea what other clubs get, but for the time slot the tournament is held at, prestige of the club, its gorgeous looks on TV, I feel like that is a complete low ball?

As much as I want Houston to get a tournament back in the spring time to go from playing at ACC to Memorial Park is huge buzz kill imo and I'd think most players would agree?

$3M is just the fee to rent the club. I think the club also gets to share in revenue from purchases during the event.

Whatever the number was, ACC never made money on the event. That was one of the issues.

Very well could be the case. There are a lot of reasons clubs may want or choose to host tournaments. For ACC with their 50-100 year waiting list or whatever, growing their membership wasn't one of those reasons so I absolutely understand why a lot of their members didn't want the course closed for 5-6 weeks during prime golfing season.

I don't blame them for balking up front and I don't blame the PGA for deciding not to honor their original commitment after ACC went months with zero communication to them after their initial offer. Just one of those situations that doesn't work out in the end. That was one of the top courses to broadcast on TV of the year though, which I think is the main reason all fans are a little bummed.

$3M is a lot of maintenance and improvements each year. Did they prorate dues based on losing the 5 or 6 weeks of play? Not sure how they could have lost money otherwise. They aren't losing green fees to the public like Torrey or TPC.

This is coming from multiple members I was at the tournament with last week. Not saying they lost money, just that they didn't make any and it was a point of contention.
