I wish a club would nut up and not allow carts. Or at least half the time. Courses look so good when you don't have 150 carts running all over them 6 days a week.

Yes once a month they want to meet up at a course in the area.

A&M is course is about your only option.
Briacrest (or whatever its called now) is public and in very good shape. The condition of the greens and the rest of the course seem to fluctuate based on the season (greens looked really bad in the Spring), so I would play it right now if you have the chance. Place always has Poa Anna, so that means when the temps drop in the late fall the greens will be looking like crap again.

I agree with you - most courses do look better without cart traffic.
However, the reality for most courses (except some super elite ones) is that carts encourage more rounds played, probably speed play and drive revenue.
Got to play Forest Dunes and The Loop in Michigan recently. Both are very nice resort courses at the same resort.
The Loop (reversible Tom Doak course) used to be walking only.
The starter said the owners felt they had to change the policy - Forest Dunes allows carts and had 200 rounds per day. The Loop did not and had 30 golfers per day.
And that is in 75 degree Michigan.

I don't really believe that many people are going to walk in the Texas heat - even with a caddie, pull cart or electric push cart. Maybe in the spring or fall but not in the brutal heat.

I don't like it either but I think carts are here to stay in Texas.

Anyone played recently? How are the course conditions out there right now?

In good shape but still CPO. No measurable rain in 65 days can be seen but the fairways are holding up well and the greens are in fantastic shape.

Thanks, Kane! I'll be out there this weekend so hoping and praying the thunderstorms hold off.

Ours goes CPO from November 15-sometime in March depending on the weather. It's a royal PITA but the fairways are sweet.

We only have 450 members so I question how much worse it would be to simply be CPO on wet days though.

The rain over the weekend really greened up the course. A couple of pictures from my back yard.

Nice view of 15! Grass is notably greener than I saw 5 days ago.

Ummmm.....

Why is your cart on the course in that 3rd pic?

Not my cart, pics came from someone that works on the crew.

Played last week prior to the rain.
Paspalum turf was quite good - growing in nicely in most areas.
Give it another season and the turf will be exceptional !

The turf upgrade will help immensely but I feel like Traditions is encumbered by poor drainage and an uninspiring Nicklaus design.

I've typed and edited and not posted and then retyped a comment to get to this, don't come back and play our course. I think that's fair.
