Anyone else catch Billy saying the shows producer told them to keep it close because the other matches have been blowouts?

I thiiink he was kidding… but I also wouldn't be surprised at all if he wasn't.

They need to get the broadcast right. Get rid of Marty Smith. Put actual golf people on the broadcast to have actual golf content discussion around the holes, strategy, and match. Matt Barrie clearly doesn't understand golf based on the lack of any content of his commentary.

Nah...people can watch Golf Channel for that.

This is supposed to be different and "entertaining" so why have the same production as a normal PGAT televised event?

Well if this whole league is based on the premise of it being serious and if it wants to be taken seriously it needs to have commentary that is golf serious. So far it has come off imo has just a bunch of guys hitting shots into a simulator. Baseketball vibes for sure.

Are you implying that by having people involved who actually understand golf as part of the production of a golf product... would make it less entertaining...? I'm not suggesting you get Johnny Miller on there, I'm just advocating for some basic sports commentary that offers any insight or might possibly teach a viewer something they didn't know already.

If you are creating a new product, you first need the buy in and commitment of your core audience and your die hards. If it can't appeal to a golf fan, they'll never get a borderline fan and certainly not a new one.

In the current scenario you end up with Serena Williams in the booth offering input like (direct quote) "They definitely have to start swinging a little better."

Holes need to be crazier. These guys can hit a target 200 yards away the size of a postage stamp so let's see it. Put their skills on display.

Tuesdays are the perfect night for this. As long as the Stars are not playing, ill be watching.

Completely agree

But I saw last night they're slated to do some Monday afternoon matches and double and even triple headers.

Not sure what says about their current ratings or if that was planned or what but that doesn't seem like that big of a draw.

I'll watch on a Tuesday night with nothing else on but I'm not going out of my way to watch on a weekday afternoon.

I agree but I think the problem lies in the fact the simulator is not perfect. The few times I've watched there is always guys sailing a green or leaving it massively short from the fact the simulator is crap. You can see it on there faces when they hit it that they can't believe they are twenty yards +\-

ESPN doesn't really have golf people on staff so that's probably not happening. Tuesday night is a big night for college basketball so I haven't watched much. I have a good friend who doesn't watch any sports besides golf. I asked if he's watching and he said he tried it but he's not watched since week 2. He's about as diehard as it gets.

That triple header is Presidents Day. Done just because of the holiday and people being off

I'm still enjoying it, I've watched all three and will keep watching. I'm shocked at how many bad shots the guys hit. I really thought that playing on a simulator, they would basically never miss shots.

I do wish they'd tighten up the broadcast (the first shot wasn't hit until right at the 15:00 mark last night) and make more crazy hole designs.

That's gotta be the tech. Like you said, these guys don't miss out doors, so playing inside with no wind in a controlled environment makes me believe there are a lot of bugs to iron out.

It seems like the distance between the sim screen and the ball is messing with them a little bit or something. It's like they can't judge how far to hit the club because the numbers are telling them one thing and their eyes are telling them something different.

They made a mistake trying too hard to make this like "real golf." These holes need to be more of an exhibition, a low chance of success, leading to lots of failure and the semi occasional amazing shot. These guys driving it 300+ into a simulator fairway doesn't even raise an eyebrow from the crowd. There should be obstacles in real life thrown into the swings. Stop trying to be real golf. It isn't, it's fun golf, so make it more fun. Have them hit over walls, blindfolded, whatever, just something, because this thing isn't gonna last in current form, it's too boring. The crowds there seem less than entertained, and I don't get much more watching, and at least TV gets the hots mics somewhat, the local crowd doesn't even get any of that.

They need to change the format to increase the likelihood of close matches. I would look at the old skins games for a clue. I would make the first 5 holes worth 1 point, the next 5 worth 2, the next 4 worth 3 and the final hole worth 5 points (or some variation like that).

I would also put the singles first and the alt shot holes last so the entire team has to contribute on the high point holes.

I would either ditch the hammer or have it double the value of a hole which would make it a lot more valuable to control with the high point holes. To prevent hoarding it until the end, you could force a team to use it within say 3 or 4 holes of getting it which means potentially using it when your team is at a disadvantage.

Wonder if it would work if they made it a rule that whatever team has the hammer at the end of the match gets points deducted.

Kinda like hot potato...You don't wanna be the one with the hammer at the end.

I believe they moved the teeing area closer to the screen this week because of that
