Maybe against my better judgment I've agreed to chair my club's Member-Guest. I've got a committee that will help me with decisions, but I've got two questions:

1) What's the best gift you've ever gotten/what would you like to get?
2) What's the worst gift you've ever gotten/please don't give them this.

Not exactly sure what our budget is right now. I'm guessing $125-$150 our cost (not retail).

Played member guest at champions golf club last year and they gave us $150 credit to a designated website with discounted titleist and foot joy merch. Balls, shoes, clothing, clubs etc. think I ended up with two pair of shoes and dozen proV1's. Everything waiting at the club for practice round.

I liked this option as I got what I wanted and didn't end up with something that I would never use.

I like this idea, but we did it last year at my MG. Nice logo-ed quarter zip to order at sign up, to be delivered at registration. A number of people never did it, despite reminders from the pro shop, and it became kind of a cluster*** for the pro shop. But I do like this idea.

I played one where there was a Maui Jim rep there on hole 1 and you got to pick your chocie of about 10 sunglasses they had available. Thought that was pretty cool. Other years have been apparel- you get credit to use on Peter millar website and the club logos it.

We did this with Costa 5 or 6 years ago. You're right, everybody liked it. Don't know if it's too soon again or not.

Thanks, and keep ideas coming.

I have received the usual items from years past, but to this day I still use a travel bag with wheels that I received at a Member-Guest years ago when I travel places. Great carry-on and all-purpose travel bag with the clubs logo embroidered on the side, no year. Shirts/towels/hats get stains, we lose golf balls, but I still have this travel bag !

Best: shopping experience with a budget
BUT - need on site embroidery with multiple embroidery logo options. And multiple vendors. And inventory on site you take with you.
Don't do the golf pro easy way out with a order form for getting stuff with no logo 4 weeks later

Worst : Escondido. Custom pants. We were all measured and fitted by a hot chick.
But then the pants showed up 3 weeks later and none of them fit. All too small. Like yoga pants. We complain years later that we are going to have a custom pants tournament and everyone has to wear their yoga golf pants….

Similar. Received a really nice Ralph Lauren overnight duffle bag. Still use it almost 7 years later. Great to pair with a pro shop credit, etc
Please tell me there's a special place in Heaven for Aggie fans! It's like we are living some sort of penance on Earth.

Not sure if they still do it but at the Gary Blair tournament at Traditions they'd bring the Travis Matthew bus and give everyone $150 credit to it.

Got one of those custom ratchet belts at an event I went to a few weeks ago. It's nice, had the logo on the buckle.

Past 3 years ours has been Maui Jim's, golf shoes that were customized with tournament logo, and a Scotty Cameron of your choosing. All great gifts

Always!!! You can get some deals on Golf Oakleys, they will work with you!!!

Not sure sunglasses are great if a good portion of the attendees wear prescription lens. A $200 pair of sunglasses without my prescription are pretty worthless.

The MJ rep can handle that easy

Fair point...so then it would depend on who is paying for the prescription lens.

I found this. TravisMathew will come out on site. Kind of a store/party bus. I talked to them today. They're sending me details. No idea if it will work for my size tournament.

We've had the following items as tee gifts for Member/Guest in the past:

- Choice of any 2 pair of Peter Millar casual shoes/loafers

Straight Down has something similar. We picked from a tent and they embroidered the club logo overnight in a van.

Custom FJ Premiers
Peter Millar/Holderness & Borne/Dunning/Johnnie-O gift suite
Links & Kings Belt
Maui Jim

Categorically, I love the nice accessory type item I wouldn't normally buy myself. Once you start getting into bags, wedges, range finders, travel bags, etc., it's stuff I already have or stuff I'm particular about. Also if I'm a guest, I don't necessarily want a bag with by buddy's club logo.

Last year we had Johnnie-O merch that was deeply discounted and a $200 credit for it.

Had never worn Johnnie-O before and now it's all I wear. Love their shirts.

An annual or semi annual tourney (usually 2 or 3 days) at a private club where a member invites a guest to play with them and it is handicapped accordingly.

Unless you were just rehashing that meme as a joke, then I'll kindly remove the hook from my mouth

Nope. Everyone just always says "it's a Member-Guest" either online or in podcasts or whatever, and I've never known what it is. I only have one buddy who plays golf, and he isn't the country club type. I also don't play as part of my work stuff like a lot do, so it's only ever been me hacking it up on public courses (which is exactly where I belong).

This is tangential, but I have a work trip up north coming up. Has anyone here ever tried calling a private club and asking if they can get on as a single for ****s and giggles at the end of the day? There's a really nice course close to where I'm headed, and I wondered just how gauche a request that would be. I usually try and find an interesting muni, but it occurred to me that you might get lucky just calling and asking.

You absolutely might get lucky. Worst that can happen is they tell you no. But I would make a case for why you would like to play the course beyond "****s and giggles". That's the last thing thing they want to hear. Tell them you're familiar with the course designer and want to sample one of his courses (if it's a well-known architect), or something like that. Give them some good reason for considering your request. Maybe when you're in the area you keep your ears open and run across somebody local with a connection. Good luck!

I have done the Travis Matthew truck as a guest, and Straight Down as a host. I liked them better than anything else, and I ran a member guest for several years, doing various Peter Miller, Foot Joy, etc. stuff.
