Officials said they received reports of Simmons' driving his maroon Chevrolet Tahoe at about 20 mph and drifting side to side before stopping in the middle of the road.

According to a BCSO report, Simmons took about five minutes to pull over after a deputy attempted a traffic stop. The deputy said that Simmons had trouble maintaining focus, and when asked where he was coming from, the journalist replied, "yes," the report said.

Simmons eventually told the deputy he was driving home from the Green Lantern, a speakeasy-like bar on the North Side, but believed he was driving on U.S. 281, according to the report.

When asked for his driver's license, Simmons handed the deputy a gold American Express card, the report said. The deputy said Simmons had trouble getting his license out of his wallet and handed the wallet to the deputy to retrieve it, according to the report.

When the officer asked for his license he likely replied " but first".

Back in the late 90s when I was a senior in high school, my friend and I saw Greg Simmons at a gas station. He was walking out and my friend asked him for a picture. He was extremely polite to us. Smiled and gladly took the picture. Shook our hands and made some light joke before telling us to have a great night. Not sure what is is like on a daily basis, but he was very nice when I met him long ago. I hope he gets through this OK.

Yeah, I'm betting old Dan got a three car escort home. He was really nice, use to come into the Handy Andy at Blanco and West Avenue when I worked there. Chatted with dumbass high school kids patiently and never was rude when he probably had every right to be. He was much more of a San Antonio icon and would have gotten the royal treatment back then.

I can't imagine Simmons is hurting for money, how do you not Uber or have someone you could call?

The guy is 67, too bad he couldn't just retire on his own terms before this. Never understand that.

I'd guess he's not the only SA weather dude who is pro drunk driving.

I like Steve Brown, but yeah....blaming female management for Greg's boneheaded decision was pretty dumb. That, and insisting he'd never seen Greg drunk. Majority of SA would say otherwise. Either he didn't know Greg as well as he's claiming, or he's flat out lying about not seeing Greg drunk.
