I love wearing my pajamas, I mean, A2CU's when travelling. It's like a snuggie that's within regs. The best part is not having to blouse them. I don't even worry about the velcro on the sleeves, just roll the entire cuff in so it's not too far over my hands. And getting away with not wearing headgear is nice, even when off the flight line.

Is your eye twitching yet?

If my daughter could wear her flight suit (we tell her it's a "onesie" ) everywhere, she would.

YES! My thread turned into a "blah is better than blah" internet war.

Btw... Marines are better.

Not really a pissing contest. My dad is a retired USMC O-5 who enlisted, went to college, went to OCS and retired after 26. I tried going that route, it didn't work out. Now, he couldn't be happier for me even though I'm not a Marine.

I still have a bunch of buddies who are Marines, and a ton of respect for them. Doesn't mean I won't give them hell about it any chance I get and vice versa.

Oh, BTW. Get a suit. You'll want one anyhow later on down the road. Joseph A. Banks is ALWAYS having a sale of some sort.

OP, and everyone else with an opinion, there is a middle ground you know. While blues might put you on the verge of appearing to upstage someone, Service A is the equivalent to a "nice suit".

I guess I'm surprised at the number of guys who seem to think the uniform is just for wear on military installations. A far cry from my parents generation (WWII) who thought I should be in uniform all the time when home on leave.

I'm with Mamaluke on this one.

I have been in for ten years and I will tell you too many people will tell you to not wear them. I will tell you to be proud of your service and wear them. We in the Army are separating ourselves to much from the civilian world. Wear them proudly!

im not sure if it changed, but when I was in (02-06) you weren't authorized to wear ear buds. Hell, you weren't supposed to walk and talk in a cell phone. I've never confirmed, but I was always told you weren't authorized to even wear sunglasses in bdu/acus.

I own several nice suits so I have options. I also am proud of my blues and enjoy wearing them but more importantly the old lady likes me wearing them. Close friends and family weddings I usually wear my blues. Do what you want and I wouldn't worry about up staging anyone.

Chosin,

You can wear sunglasses, but not in formation or inside (unless prescribed). They can not have logos unless they are ANSI Z71.

You are not authorized to wear ear buds or a Bluetooth device, or walk and talk on the phone. Eye Pro is different from post to post as JRTC's 600-2 Non-APEL approved eyewear is high discourage but not prohibited. Not sure here at Schofield on the Regs. Just wear APEL approved eyewear, but do not suggest in formation or PT, and you cannot go wrong.

I was asked specifically to NOT wear my Dress Blues to a wedding where I was the Best Man for one of my BQ budddies.

Bride's father was O-8 USAR and brother was 0-4 USMC. They wanted to be the only ones in uniform and there was an element of my buddy not wanting to draw attention to the fact that he was a D&C fighter.

Wear the blues. I wore mine to many weddings, especially Aggie weddings where there were almost always other guys in them. This stuff about a chasm between military and civilian and a caste system is a bunch of BS. Most if not all of the folks at the wedding will love it, Now if someone asks you NOT to, that's different.

BTW, you should own a suit for the times you need it, but going out to get one so you don't wear your blues to a wedding is not one of the reasons to get one.

Yesterday at church an LTC was there in his dress blues, a chaplain. At the conclusion of the service the pastor called him up to the pulpit to give the benediction. He was then surrounded by a big crowd (it's a big church) who thanked him for his service. Big change from when I was active duty. Wore my dress blues twice, and felt lucky I didn't get hit with an egg.

Good Bull weasel.

This kind of experience is what I more often see these days, and when I hear about and see this, it makes it hard for me to see what people are talking about when they mention these chasms between military and civilian or some kind of caste system. People like the uniform, and especially like seeing you show it in public, and it gives them a chance to warm up to and show appreciation for service men.

I was in a buddy's wedding in Mess Dress (AF equivalent). He was in mess dress, as were 3 of the groomsmen. The best man, his brother, was a civilian.

What was weird was a random Navy dude in his dress uniform (whichever one that is, they have like 20). He wasn't a part of the wedding party, seemed kind of weird as none of the groom's AF friends who weren't in the wedding were in uniform.

I wore my Mess Dress to my son's wedding...everyone liked the addition. And I didn't have to have a tux!

I say - go for it - stand proud!

Dude go for it, you earned it. I don't know when the perception changed that we shouldn't wear our uniforms except for military only events. For everyone else, thanks for being that jerk at the party that is trying to hide your military service, as if the haircut didn't give it away.

I love how not wearing a uniform to a civilian function now makes me a 'jerk' who isn't proud of his service.

Yeah, that's pretty silly. And I doubt people would look at my 6-month beard and say "that guy's obviously in the army"

not wearing a uniform to a civilian service doesn't make you a jerk, judging those who do does, don't get your panties in a wad.
