So pretty much this entire conversation wound down to:

"I don't see the big deal"

and

"I can't comprehend why anyone would want to miss a game."

Let us all just agree that different people care about different things. The people that could not care less about going to all the football games obviously don't regret missing a few.

As for you older guys, you went to all of the games and you are happy you did.

So since we are all happy.....

Lets just drop it.

"If you can't give up 20-40 hours per year, perhaps you should give up either the Corps of that major."

Sorry, but that is ridiculous. Football is optional entertainment, unless you're on the team. WTF kind of messed up priorities would you have to embrace to post such a thing?

An education is the entire reason you go to college. The Corps is the reason you pick A&M.

Keep in mind: A&M has not always been known for respectable academics!

Disagree. The reputation A&M has today is based on the kind of grads we produced 25, 50, 75 years ago.

It may have been easier to get in, it has always been hard to finish.

rwtxag83 - If you're in the Corps, you get 4 years to wear that uniform and in a very real and big way actually represent Texas A&M. I loved every minute of it, and wanted to maximize my opportunities to do it when I had the chance. It flies by, and when it's over you can look back and count the memories you made.
Exactly why when I was home visiting my parents in Waco over Christmas my Junior Year, I busted out the midnights and my new Band Sweater and headed to the Ferrell Center and bought a ticket to watch a Texas A&M vs. Baylor basketball game. Only one chance to do that. Hopefully I left a positive impression about Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets on a few of the Baylor die-hards (this was before the current era of BU love for basketball).

You're sort of right. In that the Band is part of the Corps A&M was a Safety School for me after I didn't get accepted to the USAFA or Rice.

Honestly, things couldn't have worked out any better for me. So... I'm really glad that my dad always talked up A&M and the Aggie Band. And that my HS Senior Year, A&M played Baylor in Waco. And that Baylor can never sell out a Football game. Because, I got to sit in Floyd Casey stadium directly across from the FTAB. I got to see them march at halftime and I was blown away.

Those Army ROTC Scholarship interviewer guys didn't like it too much when I told them that I didn't really plan on going to A&M but if I did, I would definitely be in the Band - 100%. Again, glad it all worked out - Army Scholarship and all.

A bigger problem I heard about is cadets skipping games. (Don't even get me started about them wearing nonregs in the MSC.) They'll do the march in, walk in, then walk right out when they think no one is looking.

I believe we should have key leaders, or bulls at all exits to the stadium, to prevent anyone from leaving, and also pull the data from the keycard readers outside of the dorm. Knowing the current Commandant's Staff, they probably already do this and way more than anyone realizes.

"If you do things right, no one will know you've done anything at all."

The entire mentality that the Corps has with Tradition is that cadets don't care. After they lost their little t traditions, they threw out their Big T ones as well. Sure, some of the petty bullcrap that outfits were doing is gone, but that's no reason to leave games early, not attend march-ins, skip formations, etc.

I'm sick and tired of the way the cadets are leading themselves in this Corps. Being in a leadership position does not make these guys leaders. They need to step up to the plate to serve their Outfit, their Corps, their University.

All cadets have been told that if they leave during a game, someone will be at the exits with punch papers for them.

They march in then leave and go find their girlfriends or whatever and come in for the game. My fish has done this every week. They don't go straight to their seats from march in.

I seriously doubt they could kick you out for skipping a game.

No, they would make it your choice. And that's for leaving early. Not much they can do if you leave after march in.

JCRebel, people like you really bugged me. I held leadership positions, I was an RV, never missed a ST, and managed to graduate on time and am now an officer. And yes, I skipped a few games in my time. Sometimes I was exhausted, and sometimes I needed to get work done. If you are willing to tell someone they shouldn't have been in the corps because they are not as big of a football fan as you... Well that kind of attitude is not going to get you very far in life. And unless you attended every single corps function since your fish year, maybe you shouldn't be so quick to pass judgement.

RV...what a bunch of F@gs

Yea it's pretty limp. But hey, we have more females and more minorities so the corps is doing great, right!!!

WTF does being a minority have to do with anything? Is it only white people that are tough enough to do the corps?

Not once did I play the minority card while I was at A&M so FU for playing it.

Calm down bro, you misunderstood the point. It seems like every time General R. talks about the state of the corps, he talks about how many minorities and women there are nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I think diversity is great. But I don't think it should be used as a yardstick to determine how well the corps is doing.

I truly feel sorry for anyone who does not feel it is an honor and a privilege to put on the uniform of the Cadet Corps to represent Texas A&M.

Gator-
You kind of remind me of the young ones at work or a pigeon playing chess. However amusing, I can't really decide right now.

FYI- Petroleum engineering degree in 1990 required 145 hours. The most of any department at A&M at the time.
