From looking into this matter, it appears that absolutely NO ONE in an administrative position with the university wishes to take ownership of the banishment of the cannon from Kyle. Heck, no one even will take responsibility for the decision to place the cannon on the practice field. What's the real story? They promised us a new stadium that would not only preserve our traditions, but highlight them. Who is behind all this? Phillip Ray? Mark Hussey? John Sharp? Regents? We need someone with which we can establish a dialogue.

Someone asked about the statues, my two cents-

They're not great, they're not even really good, but they're okay. Not bad enough to warrant scrapping, but bad enough to warrant choosing a new sculptor for future projects. If you look at the guy's portfolio (not a common word for an Aggie), it looks like he does a lot more abstract work than realistic work- which is why the Corps and BQ statues are solid, and the people statues' proportions are all off (arm lengths same as leg lengths, torso lengths longer than lower body lengths). As for the faces, he was tasked with forming his own generic faces, in unusual faces for statues (how many yelling statues do you see), and I think he just didn't really know how to do that.

Shirts huh? Know where we can get a hold of those? I would buy one and wear it if I make it up to a game this year.

Maybe we need to contact some pyrotechnics company. Surely someone out there is an expert in such things and can either figure out a way to get the cannon in the stadium somehow, or figure out another way to get a concussing boom inside the stadium. Also, what if we build an echo chamber for the cannon? Something that would shield the people in front of it, and cause the noise to echo back. You'd have to use a smaller load probably. But I'm not sure there's any room to put it inside the stadium without it getting in the way.

Pyrotechnics and explosions have no place in the stadium.

Logic, thinking, and common sense have no place with TAMU FLS.

I do applaud your innocence. The only more corrupt and ignorant are parking and transportation (if you exclude the BoR)

With all due respect, who are you working with in the administration or 12th Man Foundation that have ultimate decision making authority over the issue of the cannon?

Where are the safety and construction reports related to the canon?

It appears that you do not have a say in the decision making process. This is not to be insulting so please do not take it that way ~ but if you had influence in the decision making process then the cannon would be somewhere inside the stadium. Someone is selling you a bill of goods and that is not acceptable. The fireworks explosions last night were at a dB level that can be matched by the cannon.

Somewhere, someone has made a unilateral decision in their "best interest" and are using the safety issue as their buffer...until I see the reports of the testing inside the stadium and related data it is very difficult to believe that the firework explosions (estimated between 120dB - 140dB) are safe but the cannon (reducing from 160dB to 140dB) is not.

Maybe somebody can chime in with relevant requirements but I know certainly on any type of gun range - military or civilian, you're going to have to wear hearing protection. When you shoot off a giant cannon, essentially, you're turning the stadium into a firing range. So maybe they could just hand out earplugs at the gates to Kyle Field and be done with debating how loud the cannon is. You won't be able to force people to wear them but... at least they were provided. I think they do a similar thing for the Formula 1.

I probably should have kept this idea to myself before somebody starts marketing Texas A&M branded earplugs.

Definitely a lack of energy with the lack of the cannon. I hope that this isnt a sign of times and that our great american university isnt being slowly turned into a liberal extremist training camp.

I wonder if the angle of Old Dominion's gun allows it to be so close. Also, the stadium isn't fully enclosed like Kyle Field is now.

I'm not a huge fan of Corps block. I think at least the fish should have to sit with non-reg fish and learn what it's like to actually participate in yells and pay attention to the game. But that's another issue.

Suggestion: anyone and everyone write actual letters (not emails) to Chancellor Sharp and Int President Hussey. KEEP THEM RESPECTFUL, but let them know how much we want the cannon back! Here are some visuals that might of help.

Corps Block is only as old as the Big 12 is. Just another bad decision by Malon Sutherland that never was reversed and Hopgood endorsed.

AdamsBQ, this has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. It has everything to do with bloated bureaucracy. Both parties tend to be good at enlarging the bureaucracy.

The problem here is zero accountability and leadership.

The new E. King Gill and the Yell Leader were done by Robert Hogan. The War Hymn Statue was Stephen Whyte, who also did JDC in front of the Bright Complex. The pillars for the Corps and FTAB were done by Blair Buswell. The worst one is the War Hymn Statue.

I don't know, the war hymn statue is aweful. But it can't compare to the gargoyle face of the yell leader statue. Absolutely disgusting to think those things will probably be on campus for decades.

You need to quit posting about the damn statues.

There are already plenty of other threads with people complaining about them. Go there.

I'm still in favor of 3 Pack 75s, like West Point

no, but I don't understand why.

the Pack 75 is a pretty cool gun with a lot of history, arguably more than the M1902.

We just need the right kind of pack howitzer. We need the mountain version. The M1 carriage had wood spoke wheels so it was lighter for the pack mules to carry up a mountain (when it could not be towed across the terrain).

That would fit in better with the Cav style than the regular road wheels that most come with.

I had the pleasure or wrestling with a M1A! version a few months ago when we installed it in the museum. It was disassembled so it took a few tries to get it together right since we have no arty guys on our staff. The manual for that thing was terrible as far explaining reassembly.
