I know it may be forbidden now, but I was wondering if any older BQs or CTs knew the origin of the Aggie Band Song. It was on my mind this week considering it was sung to the tune of Rice's alma mater. I sang it from 99 to 03. It was always a highlight of dinner in Duncan.

It was old school by Fall '88 when I first set foot in Duncan.
Maybe CanyonAg77 or somebody older can answer.

Coincidentally, not only is it the Rice School song, it was the school song at Waco Midway where I spent my last 3 years of High School after moving back from Saudi Arabia. So, I know the tune well.

Found another post in the 40 page thread. jdbq99 said:

They were singing it loud and proud when I got there as a fish in the fall of '73, and I think it was old by then. Hell, I even secretly sang along with them.

I wish I could remember the class year of the guys who started it. 1968 sounds close. I'll ask some of my classmates. The authors couldn't believe it was still in use 1976. Wonder what they think now.

The absolute only redeeming factor about the MOB coming to Kyle this Saturday (if indeed the little commies show up) is the opportunity for us old BQs (and hopefully some of the not-so-old) to sing OUR words to THEIR song.

Come stand next to me..... I'll teach it to you.

Good Bull A Person! I heard rumors that it was discontinued a few years after I left due to someone being offended by the lyrics. (which is a load of crap; I hear worse in the halls of the middle school I teach at every day. Much, much worse) Thanks to everyone for the responses. I always assumed it went back to the sixties due to the AMC reference at the end but you never know.

Anywhere a curious person can find the words to this song?

Oh I can write them out for you but... they're not really for distribution.
One of those deals where if you didn't hear it and memorize it then, you probably won't be impressed.
It's a situation where nobody's going to buy the record but lots of people enjoy the live performance. Maybe there's a bootleg copy out there somewhere.

Our school played @ Johnson City last week and their school song is the same as Rice's.

I couldn't resist singing to myself: "we're the aggie band q....."

Then Johnson City played their fight song, which is Texas Fight, so me, my son and the Aggie behind me got to sing: "texas bite, Texas Bite, Texas jump up and bite my ass."

It existed during my era.

My father ('49) had a '52 Rice beenie he lifted from some Rice geek back in his time. Told me that they used to sing 'We're the lousy b_astards, We're from the Institute..........' during the playing of the Rice alma mater. Sounds like things never changed.

We should just stand up, turn our back, and have no response to the MOB this weekend. Silence.

So has the rest of the corps always banged their plates, glasses, silverware, etc to drown out the q's in Duncan like we did when I was there.

We never sang it in Duncan. Other than at the Rice game, where the MOB played the tune for us, it was mostly a Midnight Yell thing. Used to have a sergebutt band. While waiting in the Quad to march over for MY, we'd gas off and play some Aggie tunes, as well as Texas Bite, BQ Song, etc.

In the late 80s early 90s, on Thursday evenings after drilling late (until the head DV would come out to the drill field and yell at the Drum Majors to bring the band in for chow - NOW!), we would usually sing the song (probably as a warm up for Midnight Yell) about whomever we were playing.

Rice - BQ song
That Good Old Baylor Line
Texas Bites

And yes, back then, all the CTs would turn their backs, bang their plates, cups, hardware, etc. to try to drown out the BQs singing.

When I was a zip in '05 it was outlawed second semester I think. Deemed offensive.

I'm not sure when the BQ song was supposedly outlawed, but I have it on "good authority" that its alive and well now...at least since 1 November 2010....

It was outlawed prior to your arrival because a fish who later punched complained about it to her Air Force O5 (R) father who then complained up the chain.

Hollywood, we sang those on Thursday nights in the early '80's as well.

Dad was a BQ in the late '50's and they didn't have the BQ song at that time.

I was just reading this thread wondering how I ('95) never heard this song until unread this post and realized we never heard a thing coming out of the Q's mouths since we were busy drowning them out!

I was in White Band in 68-69 school year and this is the first time I've ever heard of this song...was in the real A Battery (A-2) during Sergebutt year (70-71) and don't recall hearing it at Duncan then either.

Excellent.

My buddies and I sang it at my wedding reception much to my new mother in laws chagrin. Which made it even better.

So glad to hear the BQ song is still alive! I was dismayed when the signs were removed on the quad and felt like the writing was on the wall for the BQ song by the time my class was leaving. We sang it many times our Zip year and the Q commander would bolt out of Duncan to avoid the bulls after leading us all. Sang it at many buddies' weddings, too. Good bull!

As said above and in the other thread, the origin was the class of '68, so no surprise there.

So are they still having fish sing, to the tune of O Tannenbaum:

I love it here
I love it here
You bet your @$$
I love it here
I shine my shoes
I clean my brass
I fall asleep
In every class
I love it here
I love it here

Class of '70. We sang it at the Rice game as the MOB did their thing.

It was known during my fish year, 1966. It's possible the class of '68 started it,

For years the SA A&M Club has fed the FTAB along with other Aggie participants in the Battle of Flowers Parade. Two or three years ago the BQ's sang the song after chow. The Mother's Club was shocked and and it hasn't been sung since. I joined in the singing. Words haven't been changed in nearly 50 years.
