When did our white belts become light tan belts? Or is there a shortage of bleach in BCS? Noticed it is numerous pictures and then again watching the game tonight.

Here is an article in Spirit magazine about Delta Company's establishment and what it means to the Cadets in the outfit and to their fellow Cadets and students.
quote:really? well if that's the case I might check it out.
The typical age range in Delta Company is mid 20's to mid 30's, though there are few clustered around 40. Some had been at A&M before going into the service, others served under Aggies.

What is the corps position on post-baccs?
quote:that's really interesting. I didn't know there were non-undergrads in the Corps at all. How does the rank/seniority/Senior boots situation work for graduate students?quote:When I was in there were a few cadets in different positions that were working on things other than their BS. V1 was the outfit for veterans, prior service (but not deployed), graduate students, students that were married and lived off campus, etc. Around 2007-2008 they started Delta Co which is specifically for veterans that have been deployed.
I'd probably call the Corps and ask to speak with Colonel Hawes, and talk to him about it.
quote:Being a graduate student technically has no bearing on rank or what class you'll be. Everyone has to spend at least one semester as a fish. Then you either continue on as a fish your second semester, or you jump ahead and catch up with whatever class you're supposed to be with. If I joined the Corps as a sophomore academically, but I knew I was going to graduate a year late, I could either spend 1 year as a fish, skip sophomore year, and catch up with my normal class year, or I could go straight through 4 years of the Corps. As a graduate student you'd have to decide whether you want to time your senior year with when you expect to graduate, or if you want to just start as a fish and keep going till either you graduate or you finish 4 years. And you'd wear your boots as soon as you become a senior, whenever that is.
that's really interesting. I didn't know there were non-undergrads in the Corps at all. How does the rank/seniority/Senior boots situation work for graduate students?
quote:I would question that. When Squadron 18 was first set up for all out-of-cycle cadets in 2002, it was made clear that a cadet had to complete a minimum one full year in the Corps in order to wear boots, and I believe it was always an unwritten rule before then. I would be very surprised if the Commandant changed that.
I think my fish year there was one person who was a fish one semester and a senior (in boots) the next.

quote:I hope your class year is 1899, because I don't believe you. Wanna see some video of the FTAB in the late 90's where they're wearing black and white belts?
No clue. Everyone wore the same belts in my day. But there a bunch with light tan belts.
quote:to be a "combat veteran" are you looking specifically for people with CABs or other proof of being involved in fighting, or are you looking only for veterans who have been deployed, as evidenced for example by a GWAT-E?
Tan belts are for cadets in Delta Company. You must be a combat veteran to join Delta Company.
We do take graduate students. We have a sophomore in the band who is a graduate student in Petroleum Engineer. As a fish she was in both the Band and FDT.
You must have at least 2 years remaining at A&M to join the Corps and those joining late must go thru at least 1 semester as a fish. It takes a minimum of 1 year to earn boots.
As a point of reference we had juniors join the Corps when I was a cadet and they could earn boots after one year without ever being a fish. Now they all must go thru at least one semester as a fish.
The number of cadets joining late is growing significantly. This includes transfer students, current students, TAMUG, and graduate students. We get some truly outstanding cadets joining late and they are making a significantly positive contribution to the Corps and A&M. This year's Head Yell Leader joined the Corps after his first semester at A&M and another senior Yell Leader joined late as a 30+ year old married veteran.
