I entered the Air Force back in the 80's and back then we were the equivalent of today's so called snow flakes. I guess people just like to complain.
I entered the Army in 1970, if there were any snowflakes then they knew to keep their mouths shut!

The comment wasn't about cadets complaining, it was about people in general complaining and in this case complaining on something that wasn't even ever an issue to begin with.

We had mini fridge in fish year Fall 79, also coffee maker. Microwaves were a no go supposedly because they pulled too much power, but I knew one sergebutt from class of 81 who had one, Ed Saad.

Our outfit won the grade cord every year, and they felt if having cold drinks or coffee in your hole helped you focus, stay up later, and therefore get better grades, that was OK.

Honestly don't understand why they wouldn't let you have a coffeepot. How else do you stay alert for late night study?

I had a coffee pot fish year, just hid it when it wasn't in use. I also had a mini fridge for about two months at the end of the year. I put it in the corner between the two bunks with a white sheet over it. Either the upperclassmen were too busy to notice or they just didn't care.

Once I was a white belt, I ate much healthier since I had a fridge. I could keep fresh fruit and vegetables on hand for when I needed snacks between meals. And let's be honest, yeah Duncan has healthy options, but they were usually gross. I can't even count how many nasty things I found in my salads.

I'm sorry but the core here is more relatively closer to the boy scouts than the military. I heard a kid in class the other day saying that his Commander said they had worse barracks here than those stationed in the middle east, now I'm no expert on every barracks or tent in the middle east but i don't think any of them had a Starbucks attached to it

The comparison between the boy scouts and the Corps is absurd and not worthy of a response. As someone who has visited the new dorms and who has slept on ground, tents, pods & barracks in the middle east yes the dorms here are much better. You likely heard something out of context typical to how rumors get started by the ill informed. And BTW several bases in the middle east have Starbuck-like places to get coffee.

Guys commander must have been Air Force and their resorts they deploy too, right . And man I miss Green Beans coffee. First stop after rotating back to a major FOB from a COP.

I remember the only thing that got many zips to morning formation/chow was donuts at Duncan.

Ed Saad (may he Rest In Peace) was a great guy - missle man. I was in Sq 10 and remember "Turkey 12". You guys had a great scholastic winning streak. Good times in Dorm 2.

Okay Alex, I'll take the next question in "Things never said in the 80s" for 1200.

I say this as the most intense Boy Scout around. The difference was night and day.

Current butt here, in case anyone is still following this thread. There was discussion at the beginning of the year about fish getting microwaves, coffee pots, refrigerators, or some combination of the three. However, those things were left up to outfit discretion (which is how it's been as long as I am aware of).

As far as I know, outfits pretty universally have elected not to give fish microwaves or refrigerators, though some may have the opportunity to earn a coffeepot for their class to share second semester if they're squared away.

I believe this whole rumor started as a conversation on the Corps Staff level that trickled down to the outfits, caused a big stir, but was never actually implemented.

Who needs a fridge? A Yeti cooler and a bag of ice will last an entire semester in the Corps dorm.

A Coleman for a fraction of the price will keep the ice longer.
