Honest question - is it 4 times better than a $100 bottle of something?
Psychologically I'd rather have 4 bottles of EH Taylor barrel proof or pappy 10 (I got both in the last year from TW rare whiskey events) because I have a mental ceiling of $100 for a bottle. Yes I am asking without having tasted the KoK before…
That's an unfair comparison. Most folks aren't able to buy 4 bottles of either of those for anywhere close to MSRP. Look at their secondary values and you have basically the same thing.
high MSRP bottles like King of Kentucky, Birthday Bourbon, 4RLE etc. are all luxury items. Ignoring diminishing returns, value really isnt a consideration. If it wasn't good people wouldn't pay it but the reason folks are buying is as much as, if not more, the status and bragging rights than what is in the bottle. Its a flex, and a really good one. Every hobby has it from cars to guns to flies to purses and shoes.
