What's that put the meal at? $1k including tax excluding wine and tip.

Unfortunately it's close to that before wine and tip, although I believe a bottle or two of champagne are included

I have a trip to Sonoma/Napa the first weekend of November for our 4th Anniversary.

So far have the following places lined up:

Napa
Amizetta
B Cellars
Cornell
Turnbull (wife likes)

Sonoma County
Reeve Wines
Gracianna Estate
Repris/Texture

If you're heading up Howell Mountain to Amizetta, you should consider checking out Aonair. It's on the way up the mountain and it's a really fun stop.

Agree with this. Love their Grenache.

Cornell was at a wine event a few years back in Houston. It was my favorite tasting so wanted to check it out in person.

I think that's just what they call the extended menu now, but not sure. It looks like it was a post covid creation, but who knows. It is a $550/person surcharge over the base menu so it better be pretty damn extended.

The extended menu was about $500-600 per person. So if that's a supplement, then champagne included makes sense to me. I really want to go for my wife's birthday in a few months but we can't find a sitter.

Had some work colleagues that just went and they were allowed to tour around in the kitchen, is that normal with your dinner purchase or do they do tours as an extra charge?

Totally normal.

This thread tends to be CA centric, so for a change of pace..

Just figured out what's coming in the next weeks from this years "I got a guy" purchases:

And those 22 bottles cost just a tad more than two three packs of Scarecrow.

Nice!

Since 2020 is a nonvintage in Napa I'll be backfilling a lot of European wines. Probably some Barolo, BDX, and Priorat. And Champagne, of course. I'll also buy some ready for immediate consumption.

What does that mean, a nonvintage?

No wines (that I typically buy) are being made due to the fires and smoke.

Does anyone around Houston have or anticipate having an extra 12 bottle wine shipper? The one in my wine check is on it's last legs, and I hate to pay for a replacement if I can rescue one that is destined to be trashed.

Come on over. I have one.

Stopped by total wine for some every day sparklers for my wife and then decided to diversify with some wines from across the pond.

You hid the Leoville Barton. What year?

That's the 2017. Also got some 2009 Ch. Guiraud Sauternes that isn't pictured.

Over the next year I'll be loading up on lots of European wines from the 1990s and 2000s.

The 2005 Guiraud is one of my favorite wines of all time. First had it years ago in San Antonio at Le Reve with the foie gras course. Mind blowing.

We love Sauternes in my house. I bought my son a mixed case of 2009s for part of his birth year wine collection. These Guiruads will be added to his set. I'll probably be long gone by the time some of those get opened but I hope to be around for a couple of the Yquems.

We did the same for our wedding year (2014) and will be doing the same for my sons birth year (2020). Also love Sauternes in our house. We've also picked up a few Bordeaux's to hold onto for our wedding year.

2020 will be challenging to source due to fires unless you go euro. Champagne appears to have a god 2020 but time will tell.

Was specifically talking about Sauternes. So definitely euro

Ben Calais makes a Botrysized Chenin Blanc. Grapes from the Panhandle. I've been through several 375s. It's really quite good and worth a try if you like Sauternes.

Just now recovering from the Napa trip. Long story short, if you get to go to The French Laundry I would recommend the regular menu rather than the Evolution as 17 tastings was way too many. Here were our food and wine pairings menus. Every single dish was delicious, but it was a 4+ hour experience and all of us were in pain about 2/3 through the menu.

All in all it was an amazing first trip, but I drank and bought way too much wine.

I don't think I've ever seen a French Laundry menu that didn't have oysters and pearls.

Gotcha.

And that dish deserves to be on every menu. One of the best things I've ever eaten.

They will most likely will. When we've gone (or made reservations) they've asked us if we had an allergies or preferences toward the menu. They usually bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your meal.
