RDV Vineyards - Virginia

Tasted here Sunday. Wow, just great wine. Lost Mountain is $250, Rendezvous is $125 and both are worth every penny.

Correct viticulture, correct clones (almost all Entav Class A clones).

Highly recommended.




Wish I'd taken picture of the tasting. Quite elegant, excellent charcuterie

Negative on both. The remodel was planned but I changed my mind so I tore down that old house and rebuilt. I didn't do the remodel because I really wanted a whole new house. Plus that's just the way the neighborhood is going. I'll tell you this, there are few feelings in this world that are better than going home after 15 months! I'm so glad to be back.

We're currently looking in the area...rejected on our 6th offer yesterday lol. To your point, seems every house we offer on has a builder with a cash offer.

Wow. Good luck. I'm glad to hear the market is strong, but not at your expense. There's a new build just three down from me right now. Go buy it! We love it there, thus the build. We love our neighbors and the street so didn't want to move.

They didn't mention rootstock - most don't, and few tasting room personnel are even aware.


Cab 169, 412, 4, 337 (169, 412 are Class A. we grow all of those)
Cab Franc 214 (Class A clone we also grow)
Merlot 181 (class A, we grow)
PV 400 (class A, we grow)
Merlot 347 - we don't grow.

Could be others, I don't know.

I believe planted in 2008.

LOTS of money in the project. They have their own bottling line and labeler at 2500 case per year production. That's pretty nuts. Also use the same optical sorter we do.

MacDonald was popped first. It was a very restrained and subtle wine. Silky smooth with moderate fruit and some nice tobacco and earthy notes. Awesome but understated.

Checkerboard came next and it was a fruit bomb after the MacDonald. Still a very nice bottle but it bordered on the jammy. We're not talking Caymus territory but it was still somewhat of a surprise.

Tin Man was the 3rd. It was probably the consensus favorite. Somewhere between the other 2. Great red fruit, maybe a touch of cigar and leather, long finish, refined tannins. Awesome bottle of wine.

Just got back from Napa with a day trip to Sonoma County

Hit up:
Peju
AXR
Pride Mountain
Blankiet Estate
Chase Cellars
Venge
Bryan Arden
Dry Creek
Ehlers Estate
Amizetta Estate

Peju and Bryan Arden where sentimental visits. I'd still go to Peju again but I'm good not visiting Bryan Arden again.

Pride Mountain was a fun time.
AXR and Chase were low key and relaxing

Blankiet ....the guy was loud and loved to hear himself talk. Also pretentious. Beautiful property

Dry Creek is always fun.

Venge is one of our favorites each time we go.

Ehlers was nice. The lady was a bit pushy and they have a new winemaker.....so may fall off a bit.

Amizetta may be our new favorite. Gorgeous and doing a huge renovation. Wine was very good.

What do most people do with their wines during a move? Just move them themselves, companies that do it? We have probably 150 bottles in our home wine fridge. Probably another couple dozen bourbon bottles. But I'll just move those myself as some are $$$.

We packed everything up in styrofoam shippers and made two trips. Heavy as hell and my back killed me, but I had piece of mind.

Granted, this was an in-town move of about a seven minute drive.

And lift with your legs.
