Macdonald's about 8 years. I'd totally forgotten about it. Haven't met Alex in person, but we've emailed and I've sent him some wine.

Piper, no wait list at all, uncertain there was one. Just emailed him, told him what we're doing wine-wise around here and ordered some wine.


Weird, I've been on the Piper wait list for years. I get newsletters but never any option to buy wine.

How was it? I have a 2010 and a couple of 2017s on hand. Can't recall the exact mix of those 3, but 2 of the 3 are the Merlot centric blends.

Honestly if you're on the list and signed up within the last 5 years you will probably never get an allocation. They have almost 100 % re purchase and they are not getting enough additional fruit to add many new members

Ha! I get that.

Father Time has to help though, right? Gotta be a lot of older guys that are buyers that when they pass their kids aren't into wine, don't have the income, or just aren't that passionate about it.

I doubt it. You can get at least double that on the secondary market.

I have difficulty wrapping my head around Napa ultra premium pricing!

It would be a slight difference if any, but I think the odds are that at least one person says "at $200 I'm out".

Enjoying a nice quiet evening home
Alone (no wife, kids or dog tonight). Grilling a bone in ribeye over mesquite and hitting both sides of the wine world.

Ha. Being back up there brought back some memories, although everything completely different. Everything east of the square (where the feed store used to be) was unrecognizable. It was a quick trip. Blake turned 50 so I was up for his party. Took a NV Delamotte but my wife drank the whole bottle before I got a taste. Oh well.

Hosted our annual Christmas cocktail party/dinner on Saturday. Served a 2014 cab franc from Napa's Lang & Reed with dinner. Very nice.

We also served a Spanish albarino from Paco & Lola.

Christmas Eve is the go to night in most Latin American cultures.

Some ridiculously overpriced Anchorage Brewing and The Mascot. Yes I know never buy 2020 Napa but I am sentimental for The Mascot.

Opened a 2019 Rams Gate Pinot that was cooked. Poured that out and went to a 2021 Pinot from Kokomo.

14 is considered an off vintage for red burgundies. It's a very very nice bottle, if you're in Houston and want a couple Of bottles of this 14 charmes let
