Dinner at the Frenchiest of French restaurants. Auberge Bresse, if you want one of the most authentic French meals
Of Your life In a non touristy neighborhood this is your spot. All locals, no Americans except us. It was better than you could imagine.

Wine was great too .

Today was lunch at Tour d'Argent in Paris. One of the biggest wine lists in the world

1999 Boillot Puligny Montrachet from a half bottle
1986 Trapet Chambertin
1993 Faivley Mazis Chambertin

Cheese cart…

And the wine list….

How does one narrow down that gigantic wine list?

I am usually great with a wine list but I felt like a teenager who snuck into a strip club for the first time…totally overwhelmed!

There was so much information and available wines
It was ridiculous. I would love to
Go with 3-4 wine lovers and have each one
Of us pick Different wines. Would totally be worth it as prices were more than fair. So many killer bottles
In this List of all prices

Dude. You should pick a bottle, have a somm pick a bottle, and then throw a dart while blindfolded for the last bottle (or the proper dart equivalent for such a Brittanica of Wine book).

We enjoyed it. I didn't have high hopes for it but the nose was on point and there was still some decent fruit to my surprise. Was it the best aged wine I've had? Nah. But it's always fun to drink old BDX and this was no exception. And to make it better, we have two newish wine geeks on the trip that had never drank an older wine so the tertiary flavors were a neat experience for them.

Finished the night hanging out with the Frenchies at my table for the wine dinner sharing these bottles. Most had never had Rayas and never heard of the Yarra Yerring. The Rayas was perfect.

I really wish Caymus (and Napa in general) still made wine like this - far from "Napa jet fuel". Wonderfully aged nose. Tannins perfectly resolved. Complex, with a hint of fruit to round it out. It's hard to believe it was ever any better than it is right now.

Don't see many (any?) sub 14% ABV Napa cabs these days

Old Caymus is great wine! I love Caymus from
The 70s when Randy Dunn was wine maker…it's amazing stuff.

I'm a sucker for random big bottles served with a wine thief. This was at Unic in Ibiza. Still not exactly sure what it was, but I recall it being good.

Having a Conn Creek 2019 from Last Bottle, it's tasty. Black and red fruit on it, that great bell pepper aroma, all around smooth and an easy drinker.

I never met a chateau montrose that didn't love me. Such an amazing wine that's gets overlooked. If you have not had the 2009 and 2010…buy them and drink now and buy some to hold

Does the 13 Tignanello show any signs of age? It still primary and firm?

Still primary and firm. Took a couple of hours in the decanter to finally open up and then it was very good. I think it needs at least a couple of more years in the cellar.

The second wine, La Dame de Montrose, punches well above its weight as well.

Dinner last night in MX.

And FB just sent a reminder of what I drank 10 years ago (torn label but it's a '37). I should drink those more often…any vintage works for me.
