I enjoy the buzz of a couple of drinks but I can't stand being drunk, never had. I drink almost daily but haven't been wasted in years.

I usually have 2-3 drinks after dinner, but not every day - 5 days a week average.

I have zero appeal to get drunk for a long time. The next day (-s, as I get older), just aren't worth it.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Hotel bars are the best! Almost always an easy lay to be had.

According to most medical sources, an average male should drink less than 14 drinks a week and less than 4 drinks a day. Women is no more than 12 drinks a week and 3 a day.

My personal opinion is the less, the better. But more importantly the reason behind the quantity of consumption is important. If someone needs 4+ drinks a night to "relax" from work, and can't "relax" without alcohol, that's indicative of a chemical dependence. And, contrary to what many people think, alcohol degrades sleep quality.

We usually only drink socially. So for the past year, just about zero. The Alton Brown Thanksgiving / Christmas egg nog and new year's champagne was our first in quite a while. I just don't think about it that often.

I've seen this chart before, but just have a hard time believing 70% of people have 2.17 drinks/week or less. That seems way low to me. Further, I can't fathom that the 7th decile of drinkers actually have only 2.17 drinks/week.

I can probably buy the top two deciles though.

I was drinking too much last year, doing a Dry Jan now and plan to keep it cut down significantly after.

For those doing ~20+ units a week, I would suggest getting blood tests done regularly or just plain taking a break now and then. The thing with the liver is you can feel fine until it's often too late. Even blood tests don't always go south until true damage is done. I had a CT recently (for an unrelated reason) that found my liver getting fatty. I was healthy other than my consumption, good weight and diet/exercise...so suspect that to be the reason. Good news is, the liver is remarkable in how it can repair itself...it is one of the most resilient of organs. Often a month or two of going dry will completely heal it to a clean baseline. But it needs to get addressed before things get to a scarring stage (i.e. fibrosis/cirrhosis), which is what happens when one doesn't change their habits in the fatty stage.

Weekend warrior here.

2-3 mixers (2-3 Shots per) on the weekend, occasionally have a couple during the week.

My aunt was a legit alcoholic. She used to start her day with a fifth of vodka.

When she finally cleaned up, she got arrested with a fifth gone, and another one ready to go under her seat, on her way to work.

let me put it this way, i buy individual cans of beer from the "make your own 6 pack" section at HEB because if i try it and don't care for it, the other 5 cans will sit in the fridge till i pour them out in 6 months.

i have maybe 2-3 drinks a week.

I have somehow polarized to the extremes. I won't drink for a month straight and then i'll smash through 20-30 cans in an afternoon.

Weird. I'll be fine forever it seems like and then one day I wake up and the overwhelming urge to get beyond obliterated will hit out of nowhere and for no obvious reason.

about 2-3 beers a week(weekend). After doing blood work last year my doctor said I have non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Never been a heavy drinker. Fun!

On January 1, 2019 I decided I would keep track of every beer I drank. I kept a log on my phone and would enter the date and number of beers.

If I was at a bar I would simply use the receipt to keep track of how many I had. Drinking elsewhere I would just keep the tabs or tops in my pocket. It wasn't a perfect system but I'm sure I didn't miss many.

My total beers consumed for 2019 was 3,778. The most on any one day was Nov. 28th, which was 27. I smoked a turkey that day and started drinking very early.

I didn't keep track last year. But, I feel like I didn't drink as much. This year I am making an effort to cut way back.

I don't drink much except wine. Usually 1-2 bottles a week max. Go dry for at least one month a year to reset my liver. Love a glass of wine or two while prepping dinner.

Wow, I'm shocked by yalls numbers. I have 6-12 coors lights on weekdays, and 18-20 on weekends. Almost everyone my wife and I know drink similar to that as well.

I didnt realize that many people out there only had 1 or 2 a week.

You're shocked most people don't drink 60-70 beers a week?

Edit: I could be reading your post wrong, and you mean 6-12 total for the week.

I meant 60-70 a week.
Pretty much everyone we socialize with drinks somewhat similar to that.
So I just kind of thought it was a lot more widespread.

Like I mentioned earlier, last year my doctor did a blood work up and discovered elevated liver levels and informed me that I have non alcoholic fatty liver disease. I've never been a heavy drinker even in college. (Couple chuggers at the chicken on a Friday or Saturday). Just remember that God gave you this perfect body and what you put into it greatly affects it. To me alcohol is not worth shortening my lifespan and missing out on experiences w/ my girls.

Had a neighbor that was a legit alky. He told me so the first time I met him. He drank busch tall boys. From morning to pass out time. He sold ladies shoes in the galleria. Told me he would drink several beers before work, sneak out to his van during breaks and down more, drink one on the ride home (10 minute drive), stop and get more talls, then come back to the apartment and drink until bedtime. Nice enough guy. No chance he is still alive if he kept that up since I lived next to him.

Aside from being a liver-killing amount, I doubt most normal humans can handle the extra 8k+ calories a week 60+ entails.

This thread kind of made me laugh reading the responses of I'm assuming mostly graduated working age men and women compared to our younger days.

High school and college - show off how much you drink

Married with kids - show off how little you drink.

Update for those commenting on this post.

After several of the comments made me feel like an alchy I did a week long survey of what my actual numbers were and here is the update.

Weekdays: 3-4.
Past Saturday babysitting 3 kids under 5: 9
Sunday: 2 (on the road majority of the day)

So I would have to reduce my average to 3-4 instead of the original estimates.

Now I'm going on a bachelor party in a few weeks and those few days alone will be unhealthy numbers. Will update post trip on the numbers from that trip.

I think a regular week, particularly in the last 10 months of full time WFH, I'm probably around 25 per week split between beer, wine, and a small amount of liquor. Few days at 0, but definitely skewed towards about 3 days per week. I'm tempted to maybe track this for a period. Maybe I'll do it for the full month of Feb.
