Who is out of eligibility this season? Wade, Hefner, Jace, Zhuric, Wilcher, Garcia, Henry and Manny are all listed as seniors or grad students. Any of them coming back?

With Wade's NIL running out maybe we can buy a big time transfer. I'd imagine at least this is "clearing cap space"

Next Year: Payne, Solo, Wilcher? And then the freshman and J Lee? Ouch.

Sure gonna miss this group of seniors. Best collective group in a long time.

Fairly certain Wilcher is out of eligibility. Solo, Payne, McDermott, Lee and the three freshman that are redshirting (Turkson, Mills and Ratowski) can return.

I do think Mills will be ready to play. Not sure about these other freshman guys but I assume not.

Portal hunting about to be crazy in a few weeks.

Still miss my guy Rob Dockery - could've been a piece!

They have to go acquire that money again. Just because you don't have to pay Wade, doesn't mean you have that same amount to give next year. Maybe they already got it based off how the season was going earlier. But how the next 3 weeks go, might play a role in how much money the heavy hitters give to basketball NIL. .

Keeping Payne will be priority #1. Priority #2 will be an experienced ball handler who can score. Priority #3 should be a shooter who is serviceable on defense.

Buzz will be gone if there is anywhere decent to go. This is a total rebuild job

If you are a new coach at a new spot you are likely going to have a total rebuild too. Me personally, I choose the spot where you have the big man. I think it's more about resources for the programs if he leaves than the state of the roster.

It's about survival. He would need a bag and a half here next year to buy a bubble team, which he is unlikely to get, and will then be in danger of getting fired. Better to move now, for him.

We are fooked either way unless donors step up

I figured he got banned this weekend and had to start a new account

The NIL take might be better than the idea that we'd fire a coach for having a bubble team after making three straight tournaments. About the only way I'd see that happening is if its contract is up anyway and he's pissed off everyone that matters behind the scenes.

I've got no proof, but I've heard rumblings of friction between Buzz and AD Alberts.
Given the roster situation, this potential issue, and supposed outside interest him….wouldnt surprise me much if he left.

Scott W brought him here….and LSU is likely hunting for their next coach as we speak

Unless the AD friction stuff is real - I expect Buzz to stay. He knows he will have the "space and grace" after 4 successful seasons where we have improved each year on the backs of an outstanding senior class to rebuild the team in the manner he chooses. He clearly likes the remaining players based on his own words throughout the year. He (and his family) are Texans - and I think he would want to stay here.

I think he would retire from coaching before he moved to another school (which would not be out of the realm of possibility at the end of this year).

All that being said - we should back up the NIL truckload of $$$ and "rent" New Mexico's Donovan Dent (a Junior this year and likely MWC POTY) to take the reins from Wade Taylor - so our younger guards could progress under his leadership and play. That dude, along with our remaining players and a couple of other serviceable portal transfers, could make us a legit NCAAT bubble team next year - even as we would be rebuilding.

Alberts seems to be complimentary of Buzz/team's accomplishments. He has recent tweets celebrating their wins and promoting games. You can't access twitter accounts without being log-in but here is a copy:

Wow! What a game and finish. Congrats to Buzz and team. They just find a way to win (against mizzou)

Anyway, I hope the friction is nothing but normal negotiation behavior. What is clear to me is the fact that Alberts is very focused on finances based on what he has done in 11 months (e.g., hiring fairly cheap/new baseball coach; Playfi deal to replace Learfield). As a result, I am uncertain he is the kind of AD that will invest too much in "secondary" sports like men's or women's basketball.

Buzz has previously mentioned the vast experience of his staff and their underpaid. I assume Buzz will try to increase his staff's salary pool, and if that is not possible, then the problem. he will look for other jobs.

I think the job to watch with Buzz might be Tech. If McCasland goes to Texas or Indiana then I could see Tech being interested in Buzz

It seems Floyd (Arizona HC) is being mentioned for both the Longhorns and Indiana jobs.

Per the Houston Chronicle:

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/college/longhorns/article/texas-georgia-basketball-rodney-terry-20192066.php

"he Texas athletic director has already started vetting candidates, sources tell the Houston Chronicle, and it appears likely he will kick the tires on McNeese State's Will Wade, formerly of LSU where he was fired, and perhaps Arizona's Tommy Lloyd, who has an $8 million buyout."

Bohls' even sort of jokes about poking Buzz or Texas Tech HC:

"Who knows maybe CDC goes back to his old ways and swipes a Grant McCasland from Texas Tech or even a Buzz Williams from Texas A&M? He's done it before."

Texas has a new shiny awesome basketball arena and so far tons of success with women's basketball (Vic Schaefer). So I am sure they will go for the sure thing such as Floyd or somebody like Brad Underwood.

If he were ever going to leave for a better program, this year would be the time. With the current state of NIL and player mobility, the odds of him duplicating this years modicum of success anytime soon at A&M are pretty slim.
