And no one worth a damn wants to come coach or play here, blame yourselves. At least some of you.

"Yeah, it's been a topic that has been more prevalent than ever in my career,'' Williams said. "But I have spent more time with our players on their reaction of others than I ever have. I think that's probably what comes with this now, the opinion of others seems to influence so much of decision-making.
"It's been crazy,'' Carter said in the locker room interview. "Been getting death threats, people calling me racial slurs, all types of stuff because I'm missing free throws, missing shots. If you're a little kid and not mentally strong it can mess you up, but I feel like I try to approach it like a grown man.''

This happens at literally every major program. It's ridiculous, but sadly not even remotely uncommon.

I don't think what he said has any relation to him staying or leaving. I think he's addressing an issue that is prevalent and affects the team that he felt that he had to address.

If by good and virtuous you mean i don't send death threats to aggie (or any) players, I'll take you're congratulations.

I agree with Bob, players getting **** talked by their own fans happens at every school. It does seem a little odd that we've got an article on espn about it during march madness.

my assumption is it must be worse than normal, as i have no reason to disturst what Carter or buzz are saying. The real key here is to not be a ****ty person and to refrain from reaching out to players on social media or otherwise. If it's gotten bad enough the head coach addresses it after a march madness game, don't be surprised if said coach walks.

I have no reason to believe it was an A&M fan. It's the internet. But the way you worded your post makes you come off pretty sanctimonious and you knew that when you posted it that way. This is someone trying to make a big deal out of something that is pretty damn commonplace in the idiot internet era.

Carter brought it up at a press conference after the game. Carter does not speak very often at PCs. I think you're digging a little hard for reasoning. Occums razor.

Yes. It was clearly a different fan who was watching a small time college basketball school and decided to take the time to look up the bench players social media and make death threats or racial comments.

The sanctimonious one here is you, thinking that somehow aggie fans live above reproach. You've probably been on texags long enough to follow a game day thread to know that isn't true.

It crazy people are just saying, ehh, no big deal. Get over it. Every team has it happen....

If its something dealt with regularly, then why drop that article and info now? If it's run of the mill poor fan behavior, then why drop that article now?

How dare the players and other fans expect the minimal level of decency and refrain from threatening death or making racist comments.

Have you followed any game thread on TA ever? There are definitely posters who get so worked up and emotional they might do something stupid like that.

We can definitely argue that the timing of sharing the story is not great, but regardless of that, I think it is important that people like Jace feel they can share and talk about it.

I think it does help that, as fans, we become aware that these types of things happen in college athletics (and obviously in professional sports). In my case, it helped me realize that I spend a lot of time criticizing many things about the team's performance. In the case of Jace, I mentioned multiple times how he was a liability in offense and offered minimal stuff on defense. However, in the last 4 years, I have not had the initiative to share my appreciation with any of our student-athletes. As a result, I sent Jace a message to express my gratitude for being vulnerable about a sensitive topic and to share my appreciation for being an excellent university representative via hissportst/basketball team. I have listened to multiple press conferences in which Jace has participated in the last two years, and he has been gracious in not only answering questions about the team but also sharing his journey as a big brother or his transition from a minor basketball program in a big city to a more significant program in a college town. Also, Jace has adapted to whatever role Buzz gave him and stuck around with the team.

Lastly, I also think that Buzz was actually very professional and explained that now this problem was more prominent with team members due to their awareness of social media and how much this environment is part of their daily life and influence (e.g., Wade Taylor has 35K followers, Henry has 22K, Garcia 15K). However, A&M definitely has a lot of fans who lose their sense of humanity and empathy when they post things online. Heck, if you go to the football and baseball and don't even mention the politics board, you will find pretty harsh posts that lack sympathy and empathy and don't resemble any of the values that A&M wants to promote. Some of these posters show the worst of sports fandom.

This happens to no other school and no one that has access to social media are all true?

Let me go ahead and join the others and thank you for the lecture. You really think the folks on the basketball board at 8am on Saturday are the ones doing stuff like this?

Again, we can debate the topic all we want and have our opinions, but your wording in your OP is pretty off base.

Yes, in response to the poster saying a texags poster has never done that.

Clearly they cannot prove that to be the case.

Alternatively, as evidenced by the emotional state of some posters during game threads, some posters might, as in, they clearly could be in an such an emotional state that could lead them to a poor decision like reaching directly out to a player or coach via social media.

But to suggest texags posters couldn't be capable of that or to never have done that is short sighted, in my view.

To suggest that someone has jumped from negative posting on TexAgs to a racial slur or death threat online is what is short sighted, in my view. Which TexAgs posts specially make you think there's some racist trolls running around this website and fanbase that are willing to go online and make comments like this?

If buzz leaves, it's not because of our fanbase is hateful online. You saying this is insane.

If the "death threats" are real, I doubt it's an actual Aggie or former student. My bet would be some psycho t shirt fan or even more likely a t sip t shirt fan posing as an Aggie. It's crazy how many t shirt tsip fans are trolling Aggie baseball pages because our baseball team is struggling so bad!

I agree! The biggest factor will be interest from other quality programs and a chance for a raise. Another BIG factor is he's about to have to basically start over anyways with his roster here after most of them graduate.

CORRECT. This was my first thought.

Best way to troll a team you hate is to impersonate their fans and be dicks. Buzz knows this. He played it up on national TV to give him an excuse for leaving. That was really disappointing.

The team will think the same thing and lose by 15 today. Yea I know most are gone already, but teams know when a coach has a foot out the door. This explains the drop-off in play over the last month.

I hope I'm wrong. The lack of 2026 recruiting and the abysmal effort at the FT line tells me it was already over a while ago.
