The Earley thing was a risk. Everyone knew it. Obviously it looks dumb now, but it was a decent thought. A lot of people in the industry liked Earley as an up and comer, by hiring him you bring back a talented roster at a time that you're trying to build momentum for some new facilities. I can see why you'd make that call and roll the dice versus hiring from the outside and doing a total rebuild job.

It didn't work, but I don't think the decision was made just in an effort to be cheap.

It wasn't cheap. We gave Early a 4year, $4MM guaranteed deal. So, yes we will owe him $3MM when we fired him at the end of the season.

I've seen so many comments to the effect of "I'm tired of A&M hiring the nice guy/prioritizing character over winning", etc.

Kinda confusing to me cause I feel like we've prioritized winning over character in most of the hires over the last ten years. Jimbo, Bobby Petrino, and Schloss all come to mind. Not trying to cast stones but those aren't exactly character hires. Now Beard is the rumored frontrunner for this opening. Idk, I just don't really think we prioritize character like people think we do.

One was a used car sales man and the other literally got our program put on probation.

What about Takayo Siddle at UNC Wilmington dude has won there, was also an assistant at NC State. If we are looking at up and comers, he may be one to take a look at.

Has there been any actual smoke for beard besides the smoke we produced here that got to Twitter. I mean it's obvious him and McCasland were our first two calls but does anyone know if any of them even have any want.
