Nobody wants to coach in Aggieland because of all the weird traditions and no support. I don't blame them
Nobody cares about the traditions, there are plenty of other schools with "strange" traditions - calling the Hogs anyone?
Lack of support for basketball may be a valid critique. And like it or not, having to deal with operating in the shadow of Texas now that they are in the SEC with us, is a headwind a lot of coaches probably don't want to have to fight against.
Calling the hogs is nothing compared to A&M traditions in the level of cringe. I love the traditions here, but yes they are seen from everyone not an ag as crazy and weird.
It's kind of crazy to me...we see ourselves as "different" and "unique" and we are, if you compare us to Average State University. One thing I've noticed after living in the deep south for a few years is that EVERYBODY has their own little quirks and traditions they're proud of, the stuff that makes everyone's favorite university so much different and better than yours. I've heard so many stories and whatnot from fans/alums from SEC schools and everyone's so excited to tell you why their school is perfect and I'm nice and polite about it but in my head I'm thinking...ugh, this is what Aggies sound like to outsiders when we share our Aggie lore.
Nobody cares. Everyone loves their school for the weird shht they do that nobody else does. I'd guess for these big time recruits, they hear all the schtick and they end up at a campus that gives them the most attention (NIL, hot chicks, whatever) and gives them the best shot at turning pro.
Wring your hands and gnash your teeth if you want about our milkmen cheerleaders and yelling at bus drivers to sit down. It's not making a difference in our product on the playing field. The golden arcs look like the golden arches to everyone outside our fanbasea and that's fine.
