Only to another SEC school. The SEC is now the premier basketball league and will probably remain that way in the NIL era.

With this total ground-up reset we're gonna have to do I'll be shocked if we even make the dance by year 3. Much less a natty. That said, I'm not disappointed in the hire at all. He's gonna have to pull a couple of hidden gems out of the portal immediately to help convince kids that BuckyBall is gonna work. It'll be like the tariffs going on right now. Ugly at first. But in the long run, don't be surprised if it works

You'd be SHOCKED if a SEC team with the resources we have MADE THE TOURNEY WITHIN 3 YEARS. Bless your heart. There are only ~30 teams in the country that can offer what we can (NIL, recent wins, exposure). What's the point of hiring someone in competitive sports if it isn't to win it all?

We got Elko on one hand and Earley on the other. I want to believe in this hire so hard I'm about to **** diamonds.

I'm in he's younger and what we need. His team plays an exciting brand of basketball. He's coming here to win and not worry about changing flat tires and other crap Buzz did.
He will win next year and build something special.

In NCAAM it certainly is today. The SEC on kenpom rates well ahead of the Big Ten for 2025. NIL and the increased depth and quality of coaches has flipped the script. The ACC was a gauntlet in the 1980s and was last ranked as the top conference in 2005 and 2007.

Wait, is your definition of "works" getting farther than buzz or winning it all in the next 5 years? I'm pretty sure there are a few rounds in the tourney between those two scenarios. I love how people start moving the goalposts before an argument even starts. What if he takes us to the elite 8 in year 5? Is that "working"? I'd say every poster in here would be extremely satisfied with that result…

All you can do is look at track record.

If the football team hired the UTSA coach, who was a few years removed from Katy high school…. But basketball is different bc reasons.

His teams have had a worse ORtg than Buzz's for the last 3 seasons. He's barely cracked the top 100 in his best season. He's never beaten a Q1 team - not even sure he has beaten a kenpom top100? DRtg near the bottom of college ball. He did take Samford to 1 tourney game, their first in ages.

Very little evidence to suggest this hire will work

It is a hire that seems to check a lot of boxes. Texags liked to criticize prior teams for style of play and especially shooting . This should be uptempo with better shooting but also defensively oriented. He is young but with a resume of success. Maybe he ends up being a Scott Drew or Todd Golden. And certainly the name Bucky is a positive for Ag fans.
