I wouldn't be shocked if he has 2 separate transfer portal lists. One for guys he could get while at Samford and another of guys he would target if he ever got a big program job like this.

Brownell is the only piece they have with eligibility that might be competitive in the SEC.

Expect him to bring 3-4 kids with them. Where they fit in the lineup is tbd but they'll also help bring the knowledge to the team of how run buckyball from the player perspective.

A.J. Staton-McCray, who was one of Bucky's key players in the 23-24 season (averaged 11.5 pts and 4.5 rebounds) and transferred to Miami, is back in the portal. Wonder if he could be the first addition outside of his current Samford roster.



Also wondering about his leading scorer that year, Achor Achor. He transferred to Kansas State with one year of eligibility, but was dismissed from the team for "conduct detrimental to the team". Not sure what he actually did, so maybe we wouldn't want him anyways. But he only appeared in 9 games, so maybe he could get a redshirt season and come back and play one more year. Seems like anything is possible with the NCAA these days.

He'll probably bring a few with him. Hard to project stats tho because the quality of the respective leagues is so different . Hopefully he has some success convincing a few guys here to stay . Particularly Solo and McDermott. I would say Payne but I'm pretty sure he'll follow Buzz and will have a ton of good options even if he doesn't. I expect Turkson and Mills will follow Buzz but I guess you never know.

Payne and Solo are already committed to Maryland.

Agree he's likely going to bring at least a couple of guys because it will help with team building. You need some guys in that locker room that know what he's going for.

Hadn't heard that Solo and Payne had already committed . Particularly disappointed wrt Solo because he would have fit well with this style imo.

We have no one and they know his system they can help new guys who will be new to the system. The 6 yr guard is what you need a leader.

Lets give the guy a chance and I think this is a great hire and i believe we are gonna go back in ten years thinking how great of a hire this was.

I will keep saying this over and over again it is basketball you can only play 5 at a time. This isnt football and a winning team can be made in one year teams added over 10 last year and won games and made the tournament.

I can guarantee he isnt coming here to build some team 3 years down the road. If his Achor Achor wouldnt have left him after the tournament year how good would have Sanford been this year.

Not a great situation obviously, but Arkansas brought in 13 new players last year (granted it was Coach Cal), so it can be done quickly.

That's just gonna be strange seeing them in a different uniform next year. I'll be rooting for them next season but just them.

Anyways, I'm interested to see if that question came up during the interview as to which type of players (or specifically which players) coach is going after. He's gonna need good depth to run that offense.

In the Mean Streets podcast they said he was recruiting a Euro to play at Samford fwiw ( a day after he took the Samford job).

He needs depth to play a full court press style. I looked at Samford stats from this yr , he had 10 guys that played significant minutes , same as Buzz this yr.

Given the way things work any coach being considered is going to partially evaluated on the players he brings with him

Earley is the baseball coach because The AD decided inexperienced cia h that could keep the CWS roster mostly in tact was worth the risk

I'm not going to have high expectations for win/loss success in year 1, bringing some players who have played for him before along might help get his culture bought in to an in place as a foundation

Bucky requires you to be able to shoot to be on the floor. Not exactly a Solo strength.

Tape from Trey is more impressive than Josh. At 6'2" I would like to see more quickness than I think he has. Trey's ability to elevate and shot over guys is impressive and his stroke is pure. But who really knows ball at the end of the day.
