It had seemed Hubert Davis was safe at UNC. He was getting at least another year, partly because Caleb Wilson's injury was obviously beyond his control. However, there's now a lot of talk of his job being in jeopardy after their brutal loss to VCU. It's not so much that the Heels lost but the fact that they blew a 19 point second half lead. Some of his coaching decisions have been questioned. Will be interesting to see how this evolves over the next week.

Yes, that was the clear consensus a couple weeks ago, right or wrong. As noted in the article linked in my post, a lot changed with the VCU loss. There were major concerns not just in how Hubert managed the game but also apparently with his comments later to the press. Still not sure UNC will make the move. Suffice it to say, the Belichick hire in football has gone poorly. They can't afford to allow the basketball program to drift towards mediocrity.

I'm glad OU kept Moser even if it ends up making them more competitive. Despite blowing games and a losing conference record they continued to compete to the end which says something for their coach.

Maybe that's what he was talking about with the "maturity" of the players comments. They weren't able to handle the business realities of college athletics. But it sure did seem like he was throwing them under the bus at the time.

Hubert Davis canceled his radio show today and there was apparently a player's meeting that was canceled too. Rumors increasing that he's out.

I think he probably saw the writing on the wall. He's from Mesa, Arizona where I happen to live and there's been talk locally about this since it became obvious Hurley just couldn't do it. All the local talent goes down to Tucson so if Bennett can keep some of it he might do well. Their facilities aren't great though.

Made the mistake of searching the likely Hubert Davis firing and came upon a few UNC "insider" articles on possible replacements. Nate Oats is consistently listed as a top 5 candidate, which could trigger the domino moves of Oats to UNC and then Bucky getting the call from mama to return home to Alabama. Todd Golden is always the higher odds candidate, but I can't see UNC going with a psycho like him or someone with the consistent character red flags of a Nate Oats. Comments? Someone please help me stop the nightmares...

Its hot. Friend from college is a big donor and they are not happy.

Seeing some rumors online that some inside the UNC program are pushing for Brad Stevens. He's got a great office gig with the Celtics and way less stressful than being a college head coach. I would not leave if I were him but who knows.

I don't think UNC makes a move to fire Davis until they have a very good idea of who they are targeting and have them lined up.

Bottom line with UNC is that the program no longer scared anybody. They were becoming Indiana or UCLA. A lot of people didn't notice, but Roy Williams built his teams around veterans at UNC. His championship teams were led by 3rd year players. He only had a handful of one-and-dones. The point is, recruiting at UNC hasn't been elite for a long time. Roy could win that way; Hubert Davis was no Roy Williams. I know this is an A&M board, so people will point to Ian Jackson, Elliot Cadeau, and Caleb Williams, but Duke is bringing in 3 guys a year like that...every year.

Any chance UNC poaches Nate Oats from Bama? ~$10 million buyout after April 1st. Oats can recruit at a high level, and his personality/coaching style seems to sort of fit UNC. Dan Hurley from Connecticut would be my #1 option, but he has an odd personality, and UNC seems to be quite "traditional" in terms of what they like to have as a coach.

Is think UNC will start elsewhere. Brad Stevens is a pipe dream but seems like people there want to go after that. I would take May over Oats every day of the week.

Both Michigan and Alabama are going to make it expensive to take their coach.

All the chatter I've seen from UNC indicates that the fans don't want Oats bc of all his baggage. They seem to have some pride unlike schools such as Ole Miss etc
