Let's get cooking gang:

What's changed: Our long national nightmare is over and we no longer have to worry about Stanford making the NCAA Tournament. Virginia Tech also likely eliminated themselves yesterday.

(Projected Seed), team we're for in bold

Ticket punchers:

McNeese vs SFA - 4 PM - ESPN2 - Southland Final

Boston vs Lehigh - 6 PM - CBSSN - Patriot League Final

Montana vs Idaho - 10:30 PM - ESPN2 - Big Sky Final

Bubble action:

Pittsburgh vs (10) NC State - 11 AM - ESPN2 - ACC Second Round
  • Will Wade living on a prayer if they lose this one. Downside is if the LSU rumors or true them missing the field will speed up that process.
(11) SMU vs (6) Louisville - 1:30 PM - ESPN - ACC Second Round
  • Win and in for SMU. We probably theoretically want Louisville to win to keep SMU behind us for sure but I'm not overly worried about that at the moment. If they win here we can be against them tomorrow.
Mississippi State vs (LAST TEAM IN) Auburn - 2 PM - SEC Network
  • Auburn feels like a team that everyone wants to eliminate but can't yet. If the Tigers give them a reason they're toast.
(B-out) Cincinnati vs (10) UCF - 2 PM - ESPNU - Big 12 Second Round
  • Loss here would probably lock UCF behind us if we win tomorrow (and might anyway.) Cincinnati would still have more work to do even if they win this game.
Northwestern vs (FIRST TEAM OUT) Indiana - 5:30 PM - BTN - Big Ten Second Round
  • People want to convince themselves that Indiana should get in over Auburn if it's between the two. Hell Lunardi flipped them yesterday based on absolutely nothing. That's right folks, we're in vibes season. Indiana definitely not in the clear with just this win.
Ole Miss vs (11) Texas - 6 PM - SEC Network - SEC First Round
  • Texas is probably going to make because it would take a series of several unlikely moves, but let's hope for it anyway AND they're currently seed line competition. After an offseason where they were lauded for going out and just plucking Xavier's sitting head coach in about 12 minutes with no drama, would be hilarious if they miss the field in his first year while several other first-year coaches go dancing. Also imagine Beard ending their season. It's too much to hope for, but we can dream.
(B-out) Cal vs Florida State - 6 PM - ESPNU
  • Cal just praying for chaos ahead of them. They're in win-and-keep-going-and-pray mode.
South Carolina vs (B-out) Oklahoma - 8:30 PM - SEC Network
  • I think we're safe no matter what happens and a win (or loss) against OU is better for us than one against South Carolina. Plus I'm kind of intrigued on what the committee will do with OU if they win this game and then beat us.
Oklahoma State vs (9) TCU - 8:30 PM - ESPNU
  • TCU is seed competition.

  • Iowa likely behind us with a loss here. Go Team Bus One.

  • Is BYU catchable? Probably not, but how they've looked without Saunders could drag them back a little?

Money Williams and Montana are also playing for a spot in the tournament against Idaho tonight at 10:30. He's averaging 36 ppg in the Big Sky Tournament so far.

It turns out that despite Arizona State beating Baylor yesterday they not actually a good team and were never on the bubble - losing to Iowa State 45-16 at half.

Kansas shot just 29% and committed 17 turnovers. Just came out completely flat on the road and got down 20 points at halftime.

Tech, this was the game they lost JT Toppin in game. They also turned it over 17 times on the road and got out of rhythm

It would be great if LSU could pull the upset here, given we played them twice and bump each of our wins against them up a quad while at the same time bumping UK back potentially just enough that we have a chance to pass them.

Agreed. They are still in danger of being in the last 4 in if they lose tomorrow but i can't see them missing entirely. Same for Iowa, although Iowa is in better position.

I just dunno. I know that college sports money is all make believe, but doesn't it have to matter at some point? Do they just have another $10M lying around to fire the basketball coach?

I missed the game - but was surprised to see Buzz and Solo and the Terps up by 1 point at the half. Dis their defense just melt down the second half?

Anybody who really believes that Buzz is gone after only 1 year there in College Park is delusional. Clearly, he will need to show progress next year and will be on the hot seat then - though i suspect he gets the benefit of the doubt through at least 3 years (with expectations of post-season by then).

Maybe the money thing is finally real, so maybe the better question is why an unproven guy like McMahon even has a $10 mil buyout to begin with?

He's been worse than his preseason KenPom ranking every single year and finished above .500 only once when he was 17-16. At some point all of the injury and other excuses just don't land anymore. As an A&M fan I hope they bring him back. If I was an LSU fan, I'd be pissed.

I never really understood why people would agree to buyouts in the first place. What's the point of the contract if you can fire me at some point for less than what's left on it?

I'll honestly be surprised if he doesn't get four years. He'll show some improvement, as he always does, and the contract is prohibitive to where they'll convince themselves that he'll get it figured out.

The interesting thing I think will be when he inevitably tries to escape again. I think he may finally be out of places where he can expect to get paid more than before and the school actually want him. Maybe he moves down the ladder again to stay on the run, but he'd also likely have to take a pay cut.

Buzz is such a strange dude that it's hard to read him. I thought he might just up and quit there for a while rather than keep going in this NIL/transfer portal world. Buzz just up and retiring at any point wouldn't surprise me.

FWIW their football coach Mike Locksley was widely assumed to be out after last year and they kept him around for another year partly because they couldn't eat the 13 Million dollar buy out. They also said they would up their financial/NIL support of football so the appetite to eat a bunch of cash to pay out a basketball coach may not be there.

That said, they have a new AD and this guy did not hire Buzz.

Who was the Aggie that got called for a flagrant because he allowed his chin to hit a UK elbow? I think it was either Coleman or Marble.

It pains me to say this but Maryland in basketball should have done what Baylor did with their football coach. Last year they wanted to fire Aranda but they didn't have an AD so they kept him on for another year. He will more than likely be gone after next year unless he wins big.

It's not like it couldn't have gone any worse for Maryland this year than if they kept their previous basketball coach.
