Shaw was a sophomore and threw for 1448 yds and 14 TDs vs. 6 Ints with 65.4% accuracy without really playing in August or September.

Not especially bad stats.

Judging by how Mettenberger is performing this summer compared to how Jefferson/Lee did last summer, he does look clearly the better QB. Last season, Mett did not have a clear advantage over the other two as the new QB on campus which is why he didn't win the starting job.

You and I both know that summer heroes can fade once the pads go on and they start getting the crap knocked out of them, Japan.

Yes, but Mett has seen live action and look pretty good as a first-timer. His confidence looks to be there unlike Jarrett Lee. He even ran a naked bootleg for 25 yards vs Ole Miss which the coaches did not call. Maybe he's a bit too confident which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a QB.

He's also unstable, a verified drunk, and has a fairly high chance of totally imploding on y'all Perrilloux- or Jefferson-style.

But to your first point, the same could be said for, say, Jameill Showers. He was 4/5 for something like 8 yards/attempt last year. Also had a rushing TD. And he has looked good all offseason and drew praise from Andre Ware, saying that he has the best arm he has seen from a college QB since Warren Moon.

And yet we are keeping our mouths shut until we see the results on the field.

Mett is a bit of a loose cannon. During spring practice, a d-lineman took him down even though he had a green no-contact jersey. Instead of taking it or just letting the coaches handle it, he tackled the lineman himself. This is the kind of stuff our fanbase has been waiting for after watching timid QB's for 4 seasons.

You cannot talk up Showers very much because he is following in the foot steps of a first round QB. It's like going right after a professional karaoke singer. It's not a good time to brag. If you happen to follow up a singer like myself then it is OK to brag.

Mett didn't do enough in spring and training camp to win a starting job over a running QB in JJ. After the JJ arrest they put in JL start start against a big time game (the not so mighty ducks) because he had experience.

LSU won...they stayed with JL why not he didn't look awful.

LSU was losing the Alabama game they went to JJ and not Mett because in that game they needed a RUNNING QB. LSU won.

LSU continued to win......so they didn't change anything....why would Les? 13-0 with an SEC title.

Mett was the best QB last year and LSU fans believe this because it's what the players say in the bar while hitting on white women......thats why everyone is pumped.

Why didn't miles play lee in the nc game?

I've heard varying stories. I'd like an exact answer too.

I've heard Lee failed a class, so while eligible to play it was costing LSU an extra mid-term enrollee for the incoming class and Les was pissed at him.

I've heard after the Bama game that Lee told Miles what he thought about being benched. That the only things he didn't say were the things he didn't think of on the spot. Or, he didn't hold anything back.

I've heard it was just because Les is so damn hard headed!

I know. I watched every second of every LSU game last year. I follow them almost as closely as I follow A&M

Rusty, I don't know how close you follow LSU outside of the televised games. I do have access to premium content from a couple of sites and try to follow LSU football closely all the way over here in Japan. I know not to post premium content on public boards. If you want some second hand scoop, I'll shoot you some tidbits.

Jap, I follow all the free sites and probably about 100 LSU reporters/bloggers on Twitter along with going to a game or three each year.

Being Cajun and living in Louisisana I have to know LSU football in and out to stand a chance sht talking with my buddies

There is no such thing as a closet LSU fan since the early 2000's. I have always tried to follow LSU, and initially it was because I liked to see them do well as a native (with the exception of the first game of the year when we played). Then came 2003 and all of my front running mouth breathing buddies who had no idea LSU even had a football team began to plaster their cars and houses with purple and gold.

Now all of these LA tech, northwestern, and beauty school grads have LSU license plates and wear head to toe purple to every public function. Cant wait for the day that LSU cycles back down to earth and they forget college football exists again.

Somehow this little fact has eluded all of the earlier LSU QB recent historical perspectives.

Time to cue up the LSU party line about how Shepherd was never really brought in to play QB, and about how he requested the move to WR, blah, blah, blah.

Methinks LSU folks were protesting way too much for Shepherd under center when he first arrived for any of that revisionist history to have any merit.

At least RS has pledged to lay off the twitter this season...
