Looking for actual recommendations, never been to Baton Rouge before and have heard there are some great spots to check out.

- Mike Anderson's for good, but over-priced seafood (huge menu with authentic stuff, from frog legs to crawfish etouffee.) That place has the best overall seafood in BR. Really, the only good seafood in BR, in my opinion. But I say that cause I'm a N.O. food snob. It's a shame BR doesn't have more seafood.

Stay away from the chains. Go local. (However, Raising Canes is local, if you're into that sort of thing.)

Not sure where to stay. I hear downtown BR is hopping, and there are great hotels there. Wasn't that way when I was in college. It was scary downtown.

One way or another, you'll find good food.

Is that Louie's? I was always drunk when I was there, so my memory of the interior is always kind of fuzzy. Oh, those hash browns. And those omelets. The good 'ole days.

I still like Ralph and Kacoos after all these years. Someone already said TJ Ribs which is good. Parrains works for me too. Try The Table is Bread.

I forgot about Ralph and Kacoo's. They had good hush puppies, if I remember correctly.

Ruffino's Italian restaurant. I am a Foodie and love it.

We had a Ralph and Kacoo's in Lufkin when I was growing up, and I always liked it, but I ate there a couple weeks ago when I was in for a visit, and the food was terrible.

I second the Chimes, also Little Village downtown was some good Italian Food. Parrain's is also good for seafood.

Fleur de Lis Pizza FTMFW. Lock your doors though.

I concur with Ruffinos or right across the street at Le Creole (both are pretty pricey). Def eat local and not at a chain and get adventurous, they do love their food in BR.

Second for Chimes

I forgot about Fleur de Lis pizza. Jeez, that place is legendary. I think Huey Long ate there. They have fishbowls to along with your pizza. But then again, alcohol is part of the food group pyramid in Louisiana.

Hadn't been to Jubans in a while, but was there this summer. It was really good. Forgot to list Mike Andersons. If you get a chance, pick up some Bernard's pralines.

Nina's is super and easily the closest to Texas mexican food you'll find, but why do that in baton rouge? Jubans is absolutely positively not the best fine dining in baton rouge, to say so is abysmally uninformed

Ahhhh, eat where you like and have a super time. You'll get some good natured Aggie ribbing but the students that are there now have no idea who the ags are

Let me clear some stuff up:
-LaLou has been closed for months now
-Mike Andersons- OK - try Louisiana Laginappe for the best seafood in town
-Jubans is very good
-Ruffinos is very good
-Stroube's downtown is very good
-Manseurs is very good
-Chimes is solid

yes it is and I much prefer it to a place like Mike Andersons which is nice but has small portions and big prices. I get why folks like it, but I think they are fufu and Louies is more like home cookin. I am a Grunt by nature so I like the mom and pop joints better.

KY Mustang - I hear ya! Since me and my hubby "Beauregard" and our son have fled New Orleans and Isaac for beautiful Ft. Payne, AL - home of the band "Alabama" - I will soon be able to provide y'all with restaurant recs for NE Alabama and NW GA. But dammit if we didn't find ourselves in a dry county! We don't have those in LA!

Acme Oyster Bar is good but you can't go wrong with Chimes.
