Today a diehard horn coworker wore his t.u. polo to work because he's so pumped about Schloss. I should note he is generally a respectable and good dude, not one to blindly support unethical dealings, but this got me to thinking…if we had done this to them how would I feel?
As much disdain as I have for the sips, I could never feel proud of A&M for dealing in such a bad faith and duplicitous manner. I would have a hard time supporting the program going forward. Maybe it's just because I now have my own kids coming of age and I'm trying to instill character in them, but the older I get the more I buy into the cliches about integrity meaning more than winning.
15 years ago I would have thought it was worth any price to stick it to the sips, but nowadays I'm content to just let them enjoy their arrogance and condescension while holding myself, my kids, and my university to a higher standard of integrity.
(This is not to say A&M never has or will act in poor form…the way Mike Sherman was fired comes to mind…but I'm comforted that any such dealings are widely met with disapproval from the Aggie community at large)
