We had to hire Earley and I'm fine with it!

Imagine the backlash fans would have had if we let this team break apart with players saying Earley could hold the roster together if we hired him. People would have been calling Trev Alberts an idiot. By all accounts Earley has been a great coach in his previous roles too. We had to give Earley a chance to hold the roster together. I don't blame Alberts at all. I also like coach Earley as a man, and thought with all things taken into perspective it was worth giving him a chance. Like anyone knew how this was going to turn out with a young head coach (that was a former Schloss assistant) just taking us down and beating Schloss in the world series finals.

He's now dealing with the full gauntlet of coaching issues all in his first weeks as a head coach. High expectations with key injuries, slumping key hitters, and bullpen issues. He really only has his starting pitchers and Jace to lean on right now. It's up to him and his staff to figure it out, but way too soon to call this a complete failure in my opinion. The lineup issues are alarming though, we just can't string together competitive ABs at a high rate. and sooo many popups it feels like.

I like coach a lot though, wishing him all the best in figuring this out! Would love to have a young head coach succeeding here.

A massive pile of NIL $ from our alumni and fans accomplished that. We were motivated to not let anyone especially those over in Austin outbid us in that effort.

This 100%. We had to preserve this championship-caliber roster the best we could and Earley gave us the best chance to do so. He also has the potential to be the next Tony Vitello (assistant under high profile coaches whose first head coaching job was in the SEC and turned out wildly successful).

Worst case scenario, Earley is a flop and we start over as an attractive landing spot for coaching and talent in 1-2 years IMO.

All this being said, everything in me wants Earley to be the next Vitello and become the face of our baseball program leading us to consistent elite status and championships!

A good chunk of change only goes so far if the coaching situation is uncertain and competitive offers are on the table. The lurch that POS put us in gave us only a very small window to come up with our next coach if we wanted to keep most of the roster. I don't think many of the pitchers entered the portal but most of the position players did.

And we still weren't the highest bidder on several of them. You really don't think bringing Earley back was the key piece to keeping everyone?

I am okay with the decisions, but we need to react quickly and not let it extend.

Losing Grahovac and not having Sorell is alot to overcome. 6 new position players is a whole new team. Will probably still come together ans be good.

Totally NOT true. Players stayed primarily because of Earley. The money was not the issue as many teams were offering as much, if not, more.

Sorry but no one can rely on Jace right now. He looks pretty lost out there right now as a hitter.

Damn team is in a hitting slump. Root cause? Unknown at this point and far, far, far too early in the season to blame the coaching staff.

I am sure though...Earley is not sleeping but a few hours a day. Probably has a lot of nightmares haunting him. Guy is in a position of pure failure if he doesnt get deep into Omaha. That's simply life and what you get for having a historically ranked #1 preseason team. Only one way to go! And that's down.

I prefer him to take a media beating now, lose a high ranking, and move on so this team can get back to playing Aggie baseball as we have been the last few years. Cause what I have seen so far....is not Aggie baseball.

Well, would you rather know we don't have the talent or watch one of the most talented rosters in baseball underachieve?! We have the top MLB prospect on our roster batting below .200. It's awful!

100% agree.
Shatter it all now. Build it up and make the postseason. That should be the goal.

Not sure what in the world you are talking about. This team collapsed when Schloss left. Having a Head coach with no prior experience and likely out of his league is kind of embarrassing. Shame we let everything collapse

Head coaches are the most important thing you can have. You can win a title with good players and a great coach...you can't win a title with all elite players and a so so coach. Great coaches build dynasties.

Typical A&M fashion - spend a bunch of money on facilities, NIL, etc but fell to hire a good coach. Simply wasting more money. People should be fired.

Need to cancel the stadium funds and use it to find a top notch baseball coaching staff, new AD, etc. We consistently hire the worst people across the board.

Ole Miss literally did what you're describing as impossible in your second paragraph. So did Mississippi St the year prior.

I agree with you on the stadium renovation.
Now is not the time for that project to occur.
Schloss was completely wrong, and self-serving in banging the drum that it needed to happen now.

Our athletic department makes long-term decisions out of fear. When you understand this, you can make sense of pretty much everything we do that feels questionable.

With that said, I can't comment on Earley or if it will work out. There is zero chance we make a similar hire to this one in football or even basketball.

Superstition is an idiotic way to deal with your personal neuroses and worse when socialized to explain group psychoses.

A better explanation is we don't believe we have to be competitive in how we fund sports OR believe what we are willing to spend out of personal discretionary funds at the grassroots level is either sufficient or it's someone else's fault.

A more realistic view of Texas A&M history is mostly we have been too big for our britches and ***** a lot. There is a possibility of changing that narrative. But for the list part we would rather blame the gods for casting misfortune upon us.

We need Homeric or Hindu epics of woe and misfortune cast by (false) gods onto humans that build them into mythical heroes.

What we should do is, like farmers, realize God in an act of common grace makes talented baseball players fall like rain on the good and the evil and support their growth.

Strategically the player development center we are planning very much meet those needs. We can hope these coaches can truly leverage those facilities so we don't have to rely on people of terrible character to lead our team.

Jace and Kash are the two biggest disappointments so far! Kash was one of the best hitters in the Big 12 and now he can't hit. These guys are really struggling right now. Henseler seems to be the only one living up to the hype in the lineup!

Except for the fact that the guy who actually replaced Sorrell is leading the team in hitting with a .389 clip.

Earley will be great and in a few months it will settle down. Now he needs to discuss with them the loyalty they showed him means a lot but now it is time to relax and play baseball. Some have to sit Schott(12 jersey curse), Kash, Binderup. Hopefully it will light a fire under Schott and Kash they have delivered before and will later but for now they need a day off. Binderup looks great one AB then awful the next two.

Earley does not need to be a long term decision. I hope it works out and we enjoy a very long and very successful tenure with him in the A&M dugout but from what I understand his contract is relatively cheap so easy to jettison if need be. While I don't agree fully with the premise put forth in the OP, I do think hiring Earley was a calculated risk worth taking considering the time crunch Schloss created by leaving like he did. Like it or not NIL is part of the landscape of college sports and we did not have the time for a long drawn out search which might not have landed us a top notch coach anyways.

Comparing apples to oranges to watermelons here, college baseball is nowhere near the high profile sport that either football or basketball is, even in the SEC.

I'm pretty sure baseball uses (checking notes) yep three outfielders and Kash has done little offensively (or defensively for that matter) to this point to keep himself in the lineup over Kiel when Sorrell returns.
