We had to hire Earley

We would have lost a massive chunk of our team if we didn't hire him. After next year, if we continue to look like arse, then we move on

My issues with him are just loyalty to the holdovers. Yes they stood up for him but now it's time to make managerial decisions bench some of these kids. It will will hopefully motivate them but also give them a game to relax and know it's a long season.

The second reason the massive chunk of our team stayed was the massive NIL commitment made to these players to keep them here. Keeping Earley and outbidding basically anyone else for their services is what happened.

I can promise you they stayed because of coach. Our entire athletic program has proven we can't outbid anyone….other than 2022 football

Never hire a coach based on player preferences.

Just stating the reality of what happened. Not sure why the thumbs down from you. Our NIL commitment to baseball this year is known to be a one-time event and not going to continue at this level next year. I would guess our NIL budget this year is #1 in the nation but no way is it below 3rd. Of course, these things aren't published so a definitive list can't be put out.

I don't think this is accurate. ND hired Marcus freeman due to players wanting him and it's worked out.

I'd say don't use it as the ONLY factor… but I'm okay if player input is a factor

This wasn't a player selected coach. The players have their recommendation and Trev and Welsh etal interviewed and loved Earley's interview. We were in a pickle given the timing. It was obviously ideal to have kept POS or hired an equivalent home run hire. When that wasn't possible (we got close though), the best situation was Earley. Always a risk. Just bad timing. And it's early. Be patient. Be concerned, fine. But still, be patient. Let's get this bullpen right. The bats WILL open up.

Years ago, I put a page in my fantasy athletic director playbook, that when a coach leaves the program at a strange time, I.e., Turgeon and Schloss, you promote an assistant to head coach for one year to fill the void, give them the opportunity to prove themselves, work the process for the full year, and then make a decision about the long-term solution.

I think Early will be good. I think you guys are freaking out to quickly. Chill out.

It never crossed my mind but I bet this is why he keeps running the same duds up to the plate. Loyalty. They vouched for him and got him the job, so he is rewarding them I guess you could say.

What a difference in coaches from one year to the next.

Yes this falls on Earley. But the performances (even in the wins) have been so bad it raises so many other questions.

Baseball, of all the sports, is dictated the least by coaching.

Did Earley forget how to be a hitting coach? Is Earley so bad a coach that his players forgot how to play defense entirely?

Maybe I'm just ranting. Yes this falls on Earley because the buck stops with him. But what is going on?

For sanity sake, maybe this was a needed kick in the ***. Learn and get better.

It makes zero sense to me why a coach would ever field a team he didn't think was his best chance of winning. These players will move on, he hopes to still be here for a long, long time. Did he possibly give them more rope than he otherwise would have? Maybe. It's also possible he would have been arguing to keep the same guys in and let them work it out if he were still just the hitting coach.

It's ok to acknowledge both are true. It was going to take both because we have really good players and that's just the sad reality of college athletics. That would have been the case had Schloss stayed, we hired Tony V or rode with Early.

Yeah, we need to give it more time.

Enough to where we are completely out of it and then start firing on all cylinders, missing the playoffs by just a few wins, resting through the off-season, just in time to say "wait till next year".

it's not going to be this high going forward

We have 19 position players - 4 are catchers (1 of the 4 is a utility), 2 starters are out for injuries (1 season ending), and 4 freshman.

That leaves 14 to use to hit your your 9. The bench is short with Gavin and Caden out. Farr and Kiel (2 freshman) are essentially taking their reps at the moment.

Lost Locker Room. Rumors already swirling that he was too soft, and the teams pic. Now that they are underperforming, it's hard to swing the other way and swing a heavier hammer. Ridiculously talented team.

Earley is friendly and a player's coach. Schloss was a hard arse ***** berating players all the time. Guess being a ***** works, but players are being paid to play and are not performing. Think all thought would just continue from last year, but we lost some key pieces (to MLB, to injury last yr, and now this year) and paper headlines are the worst IMO (takes all motivation away if you think you are annoited.....'rat poison' per another hard nose ***** of a coach).

Sdao calling out the fans who are shoving their frustrations on X and Instagram about the team and coach. A very familiar scenario at A&M thru the years....team underperforms, fans have social media to opinion (viciously) and now the team telling them to backoff as they only know what's going on in the locker room (so now team for themselves).

No one expected all the bats to be cold at once, but now they are pressing and tense and just exacerbating. This is on the staff who hasn't done much to shake them up or loosen them up.

100% and absolutely true.

BUT if this team doesn't make Omaha....Earley should be canned. Sorry buddy as I am cheering for you but this is basically an experiment based off the players request.

And might be a case example of why you do not take advice from young adults with zero life experience. Alberts???

I am not saying Earley was a bad hire. He was the right hire at that point in time. But as we all know...a very risky hire longterm. But the must have hire...short term.

God I hate that Texas looks drastically improved and we are ****ting the bed.
