Does anyone know the main issue/issues?

Are we not recognizing pitches?
Are we not able to hit off-speed?
Do we not have a good enough strategy for AB's like eliminating pitches (ie. hunting fastballs)?
Are we not swinging in between (ie pulling offspeed and hitting fastballs oppo)?
Do individual players not understand how opposing teams are pitching them?

I don't have enough experience to know what's going on.

Would be glad for actual info on what's going on from any baseball heads in here.

Schloss is a huge proponent of taking pitch 1 though

They aren't hitting the ball where the opposing player isn't, when they aren't missing it all together.

Baseball is simple.

I really think it must be something technical/strategical as it appears to be a team-wide thing.... unless team moral is that low where guys just have no confidence right now.

Rarely does an entire team slump I thought. And the fact that these guys have done it before means they have the ability.

It's also called not having Montgomery and Appel protecting some of these scrubs (Schott namely).

There have been a few players who have been swinging at 1st pitch and haven't done anything with it but get out. That's a problem that's easily fixable.

If we are asking hitters to take fastballs down the middle anywhere in the count, I would stop that. I never want to give the pitcher strike one on a fastball down the middle

If you are going to take pitches early in the count, you have to be able to protect and foul stuff off once you get to 2 strikes. Henseler is the only one doing that. You can't stay picky once he gets 2 strikes on you, you have to spoil pitches and stay alive til he makes a mistake

Kent has had some very good AB's as well has Kiel after that its no one. Those three especially Henseler have battled at the plate. The amazing stat is Henseler has been hit 6 times already.

This weekend watching the games the only time I had a good feeling about an at bat was with Kent, Hensler and Kiel. Bergevin had a few decent AB's when he had an opportunity but everyone else seems lost.

I think it is a little unfair to expect great things from the true freshman (Farr, Erickson, Kiel). Kiel is performing well so he may be this years Sorrell. I just hope they don't wreck Farr & Ericksons confidence by throwing them into the fire before they are ready. Currently they don't look like they are up to it.

Schloss always said to take the first offspeed pitch
