Why the Aggie baseball team is not toast

Pitching.
Even as Earley is trying to determine his main core of guys he can trust, the pitching has been solid. Obviously, weekend starting pitching has been elite, and the bullpen guys are finding their way. Even with tons of hit batters and walks, the most runs given up have been 7 twice on Tuesdays when Earley is experimenting with young guys. Ags pitching should get better and it's already been really good.

Caden Sorrell.
This guy has been terribly missed. I believe he is worth at least one run per game, maybe more. When he gets back, the lineup should be well known, from what we've seen. This will give us a lineup possibly looking like the following...

1. Kent SS
2. Jace CF
3. Henseler 3B
4. Sorrell LF
5. Kash 1B
6. Schott/Binderup/Bergevin DH
7. Farr 2B
8. Galloway/Harrison C
9. Kiel/George RF

Assuming Sorrell comes back full strength and guys like Jace, Schott, Kash start hitting their historical numbers, this is a really good lineup.

Adversity.
Most every team goes through it. Ags are going through it early. I have faith in the leadership on this team to be able to fight through these struggles and be much better for it come SEC season.

Lots more to say, but I'll leave it there. Let's try to lift these guys up for future games and not tear them down for past ones. It's a great group of guys that are representing our school with great class and integrity. I guarantee you every one of them is doing their absolute best to win. I will support them, win or lose.

We've started much, much slower than I expected but still time to turn it around. The bats have been just dreadful and the biggest thing that gives me confidence is the one consistency during the prior 3 years was our offense was awesome and we hired the guy that coached that.

Appreciate the optimism and positivity, and I agree with many of your thoughts. This weekend series is very important, and I think it will have a huge impact on the rest of the season. The offense needs confidence in a bad way. Jace is the biggest, most impactful piece that needs to get rolling. If he does, I think it will fuel this offense.

Don't disagree.

Unless he quits hitting, Keil isn't going to split time. Galloway is probably your guy 3 out of 4 behind the plate.

It's a nice lineup and much better defensively than the previous ones. You have power guys in Jace, Sorrell, Henseler, Kash (historically) and Kent (he's on pace, at least). The DH spot should provide moderate to big power depending what happens. You've got speed in Jace, Sorrell and Keil. Galloway seems to have good at bats and he's got moderate power. Not sure what Farr is yet but he can be a nice player for us. Defensively, you've got a really nice outfield. Not elite defensively on the infield, but I think that can be a pretty good one. Kash fielded 984 at Tech. Kent has played well. Farr looks like he can be really good.

Need to find a couple of more relievers who can consistently throw strikes. But I liked some of what I saw this week on Tues/Wed this week from a few guys.

Finally, it felt like we took a lot more pitches this week. Not sure that's true, but it's something we need to do. It was basically Schloss strategy and it works.

I like what I see from Kiel and George....they are spark plugs. It's far fetched, but I wouldn't mind this:

1. Kiel RF/2B
2. Jace CF
3. Kent SS
4. Henseler 3B
5. Sorrel LF
6. Kash 1B
7. DH
8. C
9. George RF/2B

I agree, this weekend is pretty key to get our momentum going into conference play. I feel most of the experimentation finding the right players is over and the suggestions above are the answer. Now to put it all together this weekend and go and accomplish our goals.

I've been completely fine with Farr. His average is misleading. He's hit several piss missles for outs and his speed has also been a factor keeping him out of a few DP's in innings we went on to score.

At the DH spot I would mix in George. I like his speed also in the lineup as a factor and it can be matchup based. Schott improving but if we have a bad matchup for him I like George in the spot right handed.

Outside on PH roll possibly I've been unimpressed with Bergevin and Binderup.

My lineup:

1. Kiel LF
2. Kent SS
3. Henseler 3B
4. Tubby CF
5. Caden RF
6. Kash 1B
7. Schott/George DH
8. Galloway - C (I've liked him best at the position and at the plate)
9. Farr 2B

With the possibility of moving Caden up or down in the lineup depending on how rusty he comes back. He'll need AB's though so probably wouldn't move down. If that lineup still had Gavin instead of Farr in the lineup sure would have been nice.

Great post OP. I agree that we are NOT done for, and there's no quitters on this team. Defense will be much better now that Kash is at 1B and offense will improve when Sorrell comes back. Pitching is not a concern at all.

Get Sorrell's bat in the lineup as soon as possible, he doesn't need to play in the field, and risk further injury.

Farr is going to be fine at 2B, please leave Kash at 1B.

DH Sorrell, put George in LF, Kiel in RF, I like the get-on-base, put-the-ball-in-play guys who can run.

I feel better about this lineup and will feel even better with Sorrell back in the lineup.

But, this start has put us in a hole. We only have room to lose 2-4 non conference games this year if we want to host a regional. We have 12 left. And we'll have to win ~60% of our conference games.

Have to win these next 4. Have to.

Couple things.

1. Kent is leadoff. He will continue to be leadoff unless something drastic happens. Kiel might be a great leadoff, but I just don't see Earley putting that weight on his shoulders. He's doing great at the 8/9 spot. Keep him there.

2. Sorrel. Putting Sorrell at DH to protect his injury might be the worst possible thing to do. I've had many minor pulls of muscles in baseball/softball because I've had to do no running until I hit. Sorrell is more apt to hurt his hamstring by trying to leg out an infield single after sitting on the bench than by running around in the outfield.

My 2 cents.

I don't think they are done. I think they will be better. I don't see them getting anywhere close to hosting but def could win a game in a regional, best chance make it out.

The four main reasons we were ranked no. 1, in order:

Jace, who is still trying to find his groove.

Prager, who has done everything expected of him.

Grahovic, enough said.

Caden, enough said. Hope he comes back 100%.

Here's the difference.

Baseball is not football. Pitching is huge. Our pitching looks good, and should get better. If you have pitching, you always have a chance.

As we figure our players and lineup out, we should get better in the field and at the plate.

Last year's team was special. It was probably greedy for us to expect to just roll on like last year. Now we know. This is a new team trying to replace about 12 guys who kicked ass last year. There will be bumps in the road and we should have expected that. Let's see how they respond, and let's support them as best we can.

Good idea - let him DH this weekend or Tuesday then get him in the field. I don't want his first ABs vs SEC teams.

Ok, read this next. Good point too. I'll leave it up to the medical people. Brauny did ask Caden how he feels and he said he feels great.

Lol

They could still be a national seed. If they start hitting the ball they will win SEC series and that holds way, way more weight then OOC midweeks.

This isn't football or basketball. Losing to cupcakes or having a bad week doesn't kill you. Especially with the schedule we play, there is plenty of opportunity to make up for it. And our starting pitching on weekends has been nails, they just need the run support

i recall us having somewhat similar slow start in schlossisaDbag first season. i can't remember their exact record but i so remember them struggling some and then when they hit sec play they figured it out and made the cws. baseball is not like any other sport it is all about continuing to get better day by day. it is very monotonous but if they stick to the script i think they can turn this bad boy around.

If you want to know why this team isn't toast, listen to player interviews from the skid, and then listen to them from tonight. Tonight, the guys sounded like what you heard in the midst of fungo golf last year; not the buttoned up, serious post games from earlier in the season.

If they keep having fun, playing loose, and get healthy, watch out.

I think having Kash's glove at 1st and getting his bat going is huge. Kent and Henseler have been absolutely massive in making sure this didn't get worse.

Kiel's earned his spot. Can't say Farr has, so if you want a /George it should be at 2B with Farr.

Agree for sure. I was quite nervous and will be through this weekend but always have known that worse-case they had until SEC play to try to settle down and play to their talent.

My biggest ?????? Is Farr. Kiel absolutely has to play. And Farr seems to be the weakest link on the team. Don't get me wrong, he is a very talented freshman that will become a big time contributor as he develops into a SEC player.

I know George is versatile. Is 2nd an option for him as a position player if Farr struggles.

I think Farr will develop into this year's Sorrel. He just needs to gain confidence. Defense is really good, having good plate discipline and appearances- just needs to catch his stride

I agree Farr has been the weak link, but I'm hopeful he can be this year's Sorrell. A freshman that isnt in the opening day lineup, but turns into an important part of the team with enough ABs under his belt. You can see the power/athleticism and why the coaches believe in him, but it hasn't yet translated into results.

Ditto on Farr. He's young, shows lots of promise. People forget how big of a stage this is for a freshmen. He's handled it well and takes a little time to shake the nerves and become comfortable and confident in your ability. I think he'll end up being very good for us.

Idk if it has been mentioned but our Pythagorean W/L is 10-3.. that is a measurement that basically gauges "luck". Theoretically, if your record is worse than that, you've been unlucky, better you've been lucky. Looks like maybe we've been a bit unlucky.

The last two games have been a complete 180, and the team looks like who we thought they are.

It doesn't take an Aggie bias to say you can't make definitive statements after 3 weekends.

We hosted a Super in '22 after losing the series to Penn in week 2 and 2 games Frisco in week 3.

This team absolutely has the talent to host a super. Whether we do remains to be seen. We certainly won't if we play like we did before Wednesday.
