Listening to some recap of sec games tonight. Sips got the the win vs Auburn. But Jared Spencer (their Friday starter) went out in the third with what looks like might be an injury.

Anyone know anything. Could have major ramifications in the coming weeks

Schloss said he was just "sore". No idea what that means to swingers.

I wonder if his velo was down last night compared to where it normally is. I remember listening to Schloss harp on that a lot in his interviews last year how that's always a sign they need to get pulled because something isn't right, whether that be soreness or something more serious.

I hope that he's okay, I don't want anyone to be injured, but I would really like them to lose more games.

Plague and pestilence upon their program and all who associate with it, stopping short of the losss of first born.

But it's still OK for the second one, right?

Sounds like Spencer will most likely NOT be available this coming weekend. That is HUGE news. And not just because he is their Friday starter. If you follow them (I dont specifically follow them just the SEC in general), you know that while their pitching staff has been very good, they are NOT very deep right now. They have their 3 weekend starters and about 4 guys out of the pen that they really trust. Remove the Friday guy from that equation and that puts them in a pickle.

If you listen to Joe Healy (D1 SEC guy) he has mentioned several times that one of the keys to beating tu is getting their pitching "off schedule". Sounds like they will go into this weekend off schedule.

Really, our teams are kind of alike from a pitching perspective right now. Like the starters and are pretty happy with the top few guys out of the pen, but its a real question mark after that. While Prager hasnt been his normal self, he has still been able to fight and eat innings. Imagine if I told you Prager or Lampkin was unavailable. We would be in a bad spot on the mound

Brauny said he was down to 83 with his fastball on the mound last weekend. That usually suggest an arm injury of some sort.

The SEC Unfiltered guys said he's not pitching this week. I'm not sure if they have any actual insight or were just speculating, but I tend to agree. No need to rush your ace back when you're already almost guaranteed to be a national seed.

BUT if there was one opponent Schloss would buck his conventional wisdom for, it would be the one this weekend.

Throwing 83 on the mound is NOT good. That loss of velo (93 to 83) indicates an arm injury.

It would be malpractice. Warming up isn't a quick process. Plus, he'll be throwing meatballs. His velo is down. It's not in tu's best interest to put him on the mound because we'll hammer him.

I'm guessing they'll move Harrison and Riojas up in the rotation and have TBA for Sunday.

Will be very curious how they manage it though, as they rely heavily on Grubbs and Volantis to be their workhorses in the bullpen. I believe Grubbs was a starter last season so he would make sense to slide into the Sunday role but he may be too valuable in relief for them to feel comfortable doing that.

After those two, there best two on paper are Bing and Flores. But looking further into that, it seems like they are primarily midweek guys.

Grubbs and Volantis have 36.0 and 34.1 IP respectively. The next reliever who has regularly pitched weekends lately is Burns with only 12.2 IP so far.

Their 3 starters, Grubbs and Volantis make up for the lions share of their weekend IP. Taking 5-6 IP away from that with Spencer out is going to cause them to rely on those guys even more than usual, and hopefully have to rely on some low leverage guys in high leverage situations.

They want to use Volantis like we used Aschenbeck last year. He has typically been pitching on Fridays and Sundays, usually after 6-7 inning starts by Spencer and Riojas.

Would keep an eye on if Bing and Flores pitch for them tonight.

I know this is a gross exaggeration of an example but in the national championship Tennessee won the whole thing late in game 1. They ended up losing the game but forced us to to go Ausch a lot earlier than we wanted…which forced Cortez to go longer in game 2 which depleted us completely by game 3. They lost the battle but won the war due to what happened earlier in the series

Hopefully we get up early in game 1 and force them to burn some of their plus arms OR ride with lesser arms trying to steal some outs and we make them pay

Bing or Flores didn't pitch for them last night, which is the first time neither have pitched in a midweek since SEC play started. Wouldn't be surprised if Bing is the Sunday starter considering that was his role early on before he got moved to midweeks.

I'm not certain they "forced" us to do either of those things. Certainly not CC in Game 2. That was a terrible managerial decision by Schloss when he could have forced them to use all their bullets when we were up 1 game, and instead we burned everything at a point where we didn't need to.

I'll still stand by this - he couldn't win because it wasn't in the best interest for himself (he would look like an idiot leaving less that 24 hours after winning a title) or for his new employer (who wanted us to lose and rub our faces in by having Schloss leave in under 24 hours). Plus, he was not actively managing that series. He let Vitello work the umps with little to no resistance. He just sat in the dugout for the most part.

Schloss made promises to CDC to bring players and that fell through. He's o'fer in players following him department at least. There were rumors preferred players parties were contacted Monday morning. It was all disgusting.
