I mean I love Jace and I'm fine if we keep Earley… but also we had a lot of great football players wanting to keep Sumlin and Jimbo. Interviews saying he was the best coach and they'd run through brick walls for them too

He took a consensus pre-season number one team to a team that couldn't make a 64 team playoff field.

He just isn't ready for a prime time job and may never be.

He may be as bad a choice as Joni Taylor was in women's hoops.

He was a high risk hire and he bombed out. Time to get a proven head coach before the program gets wrecked.

Joni hasn't looked good (I guess, I don't really pay attention to basketball) but she had head coaching experience and a pedigree when she got hired. Earley had none of that.

Mike Earley appears to be a nice guy and if he is released he will paid $4 million for one year of work. No need for anyone to feel sorry for him.

Getting fired is a fact of life in the coaching profession.

I am ambivalent at this point. Trev should know that football is the only sport that can get him fired and he may chose to be very conservative with funding non revenue sports to free up resources we need to compete in football.

And judging from this coaching hire, the hiring criteria needs to be vastly more professional for the next hire rather than "the players really like him,"

Jace thought so much of Earley that he gave him his best year.

Jace loving Mike means that Mike is a great man. That doesn't mean that Mike is a great head baseball coach.

Frankly, I think Mike can develop into a great head man, I just don't know if there's time at a place like A&M to let him develop. He's improved leaps and bounds just in the year he's been here, and if it weren't for the Mizzou sweep, I'd be in favor of keeping him. That said, the sweep made me think it's just going to take him too long to get things on track.

At this rate, I think it would take him another 3-4 years of development to have Omaha back in our sights. The rest of the pack is in a dead sprint and they got a 2 minute head start.

the players had a chance to give earley a meaningful endorsement through their performance. I really don't care what they have to say after pissing the season away.

He batted .258 this year. He batted .305 last year and .287 the year before. Talk is cheap. I'm looking at the man's performance. He didn't get it done this year. He underachieved with Early.

I like Jace, he has been fun to watch and yes he is one of the greatest to ever play for the Aggies. That said, it's beyond evident to me that he was not well prepared for this season. This team was uber talented and that was on full display when you look at that 9 in a row steak where they beat some of the best of the best SEC teams on the road. Then, one of the most embarrassing moments in Aggie Athletics history when Mizzou comes to College Station. The wild inconsistencies can only point to a lack of leadership by the coaching staff and the top returning players. If it was up to me, I would have let Earley and the entire staff go after the Sunday blowout loss to Mizzou. Utterly ridiculous and unacceptable!
