Not sure he played much baseball before HS.

A&M vs. UF game announcers mentioned that Coach Michael Earley found out about Jorian Wilson from a Twitter post. Apparently after seeing Wilson on film on the Twitter feed he was watching, Coach Earley immediately took a trip to Hallettsville to watch Wilson play ball and was impressed not only with Wilson's hitting power, but also with Wilson's superb fielding and throwing skills.

Thus, the legend of the Hallettsville Howitzer in Aggieland began...

Jorian struck out 4 times in the game Early went to watch. Early called him and asked - "were you guessing at the pitches?", "yes, I was "...."I can fix that".

Here is Jorian's interview with SEC Network: Rally Cap today. He talks a little about how he was discovered.

Coaching staff absolutely nailed it on Jorian. I'd be curious to know who else was recruiting him. Seems like it'd be hard to miss this kind of talent .

I think I heard that TCU either offered him or was interested in him as a football player

After seeing the topic of:

is this true? (Jorian)

I was absolutely positive the next line had to be:

". . . is 6'4" and 240 pounds."

Now where have I heard that before?

I guess an alternate question after Sanford's injury could be "Can he play linebacker?"
I'm guessing the answer is probably YES.

He started playing baseball at 14U. Which is extremely late.

Just shows all the 6U - 13U is pretty meaningless as far as becoming a prospect. If you got talent you got talent.

Exactly. All these parents and clubs talking about playing in college in middle school......far....far....far....too early.

Genetics is something that you cannot hack. Kid is a natural born hitter who was blessed with wonderful genetics. Can't teach that...one bit.

Let puberty hit then and only then is when the true talent shines. Seen so many 12-14 year old "studs" who were nowhere close to being a stud at 16 when all the other kids are 75 lbs heavier and 6 inches taller....

There's even more nuance than that though.

If Wilson were at a big, 6A program in the Houston area he probably wouldn't ever have gotten the chance to play baseball and been steered towards football. Even with that athleticism he'd have been so raw as a HS freshman he might not have made the team and never had the chance to develop.

But, being able to play at a smaller HS and getting into a select program that saw his raw skills got him to develop and show off that talent.

As for the Jeremy Booth tweet in the OP, he's telling the truth. They saw Wilson playing for Banditos, had him work out, and Longley told Earley to offer him, and they also invited him into the Future Stars program which has become a pretty big deal. And for a humble-brag, my oldest is in that same program just a few years behind.

Here's what happened with Wilson and this is the workout Wilson references in his "Rally Cap" interview (Luis Amaro was his coach at Banditos):

They have 4 big events, one for each age - Fresh 50 for HS freshmen, Underclass Premier for HS soph, Underclass Elite for HS juniors, and the Main Event for seniors. Invite only and you don't pay to be a part of it- this past fall my oldest was part of the Underclass Premier which was at Dunkin' Park in Hartford, CT which is the home of the Rockies AA-affiliate, the Hartford Yard Goats. Last fall the Main Event was at Globe Life in Arlington. This coming fall my son is looking to return for the Underclass Elite which is going to be at Dudy-Noble in Starkville and the Main Event is at Target Field in Minneapolis.

I hadn't heard this, that's wonderful.
I don’t get enough credit for the things I manage not to say.
