Unfortunately, major models are mixed on when rain ends Friday. One shows it moving out by 6pm, euro shows it lingering into the late night.

And guess what? Those will change 2-3 times by Friday.

Not necessarily. Every set up is different. The OP asked for a met's opinion so I provided one.

Well what do ya know! I'm a Met too! Just retired, that's all. Btw, it looks like you surmised correctly since the Euro, Canadian and GFS are all showing rain lasting into Friday evening. All the latest Hi-Res models are backing that up also. Even if the rain ends by 7 pm, the field might be pretty soggy. Cheers!

Cheers right back to ya!

Really frustrating for me personally. After the fiasco of driving back-and-forth for that Sunday Texas game only to have it canceled… to then this being the other only game I can go to this regular season at home. Very frustrating

I don't know what I did to make the baseball gods angry!

Really felt bad for you that day/night

So little faith in the Aggiedome in this thread….

there is no Aggiedome. HTH
Of all the tired old regurgitated sayings on TexAgs, this is the number 1 most annoying one.

So when it comes to the Aggiedome, fair to say you bring the hat?

Definitely! I need to get a dog

Please bring the dog to the game in cstat.

Taking my son to Banana ball tomorrow, very excited!

We tried to get tix to the Auburn game at 2, but GA berm seats were 200 each and we have a group of five, so I think we'll probably watch it at Sodalaks.

Exciting series coming up!

Do they have a tarp covering outfield too? Seems like a long-shot to play…

The field will drain once the rain stops. The question is when will the rain (and/or lightning) stop.

The game is scheduled for linear television so we can't call it early without the league giving us the OK, and, frankly, we don't want to call it for competitive reason (stressing our bullpen with a doubleheader) and logistical reasons (compounding the parking and traffic nightmare that will be Saturday night in CS).

We have to start before 10 or it will be pushed to Saturday. We may cut it a bit close, but I'm thinking we will get it in tonight.

There's a possibility of getting seats at the ticket office by walking up. They used to reserve some for walk-ups. Don't know if they do anymore.

There was a regional a while back when Childress was here that had games delayed due to rain. After one downpour, there was standing water on the warning track. They had that water pumped out and the outfield drained within 30 minutes. That field was built to drain water quickly. The dirt on the other hand is where the issues are which is why they tarp it.

I believe it was a similar deal Mother's Day in POS 2nd year here. We got all kinds of mixed signals about the game being canceled rather than postponed.

Seemingly he didn't want to play but the grounds crew and lots of volunteers got the field ready with electric water pumps and brooms and vacuums. If it could push, pull, suck, or blow water they probably used it that weekend.

Still no word on if the game is being played tonight.

Why do we have such incompetent decision makers when it comes to things like this? Check the weather, play it safe, inform the masses. The longer they drag decisions out, the more they hurt the fans who could've made plans.

Because weather is unpredictable and they REALLY want to get this thing in today any way possible to avoid a complete cluster tomorrow?

We're still almost 9 hours until scheduled first pitch. Take a few deep breaths, shove off from work early, order yourself a beer with your lunch, and relax.

The model I looked at (I have a Meteorology degree) says that rain will be ending around 11 PM tonight. They can't start an SEC game after 10 PM.

I'm sure the Athletic Department REALLY DOESN'T WANT a rainout with Banana Ball across the street from Olsen tomorrow. With that being the case, I wouldn't expect them to cancel the game before scheduled first pitch.

If I were them, I'd be trying desperately to start the game before 10 PM. Even if it went into a rain delay, they could resume it up to midnight (by which time the rain would likely have cleared).

You do realize that when a game is on linear TV that the decision maker pool is more than just our AD right? Unless by "we" you mean ESPN because you work there, in which case carry on Angry Little Beaver. Carry right on.

Answer:

As early as 5-6pm, as late as 9-10.

Gut feeling is the last BIG round of rain wraps up before 6, with showers ending west to east over the course of the evening.

The Friday night Arkansas game in 2024 is another example. It was POURING at the planned the start time, I think we got 5" of rain in less than 3 hours. The grounds crew did phenomenal and we got the game in after a delay, then had an awesome pitchers duel. Prager gave Hagan Smith his first loss on the year if I recall. One of my fav games to attend.
