My follow-up on the reason for the 2D plane at mid-plate rather than 3D volume in the current, protest-based ABS:

"ABS uses a two-dimensional strike zone set over the middle of the plate. They tested a three-dimensional zone over the entire plate, which led to an excessive amount of strike calls and thus more strikeouts, which no one wants. They also tested a two-dimensional zone at the front of the plate, and again there were excessive strikes. A two-dimensional zone over the middle of the plate produces the results most consistent with the zone we're used to seeing, so that's what's being used. "

Thank you for following up. It's an interesting discussion but a weird article. I still fundamentally disagree with the statement "we saw too many strikes" when what they should have said was, "our MLB product has seriously degraded to the point where we're ok with, nay - actually encourage, players hitting .210 and striking out 200x a year as long as they hit 25HRs."

I still contend a strike is a strike.

Yes, a win tonight by them is worth 34 RPI points which would move them up to # 57 or #58. Our road wins in Baton Rouge would become Quad 1 wins.

If they win tonight and we beat them, then they could drop back below # 60.

The back-to-back challenges won by the LSU pitcher was awesome. Home plate ump with a fairly poor start to the night.

Wacha gives up two runs in six innings tonight. Leaves up 3-2. Bullpen immediately gives up two to Boston, and Michael gets a no decision.

As a pitcher I hate the shift. But what I hate more is the current evolutionary point where we find ourselves in the MLB. It's a bad product.

I know it's way outside the box but I think we need to consider lowering the mound or bumping the rubber back a little. The power, K, Walk dynamic makes for long stretches of really bad baseball. Hamstring the pitchers, then move the fences back to reward doubles and base running. It'll also punish teams that try to hide a lumbering oaf in a corner OF spot.

Give me a slew of guys that can hit .315-.330, I don't care if they only hit 10-15 jacks if they hit 50 doubles.
