Seems that the only pitches where the 2D model differs from the 3D one is when the ball misses the 2D slice but has such an angle that it crosses a similar slice at either the front or rear of plate. I'm thinking its inaccuracies are negligible compared to relying on human eyes, and has the benefit of less expensive technology.
