Hopefully he adds his name to our list of pitchers who have a randomly elite outing in the postseason after a lackluster regular season.

Lamkin
Prager
Dettmer
Dallas
etc

ahem..

Seems like he's been having trouble with his plant foot moving on delivery. Hope the mechanics get worked out. He's also been throwing across his body too much missing often low and outside. Here's to getting the kinks out and a good outing.

Is this something you heard/read he was working on or something you noticed?

Just noticed from his last few outings. My dad was a pitching coach for the Rangers organization for nearly 20!years. I tend to watch the pitchers very closely lol.

I definitely don't to have great knowledge of pitching but I've always suspected Shane must have some easy "tells" for the hitter because his velocity and movement are at good enough to get more misses than he does. I imagine his moving his plant foot location significantly to get more on his sweeping breaking ball would qualify. Batters certainly don't seem fooled by the pitch very often and it kills him on 0-2/1-2 counts.

Is the over/under for Sdao HR set at 2.5 today? I think that would be a solid outing.

That's seems a little high for a team that's only hit 33 HRs. It say 1 at most

I think this article helps with a context we might not get
A transparent report on. Not sure if this is some of what Sdao is working through:

Announcing a pitcher has tells is a not a friendly gesture on fan board on the day of an important game he is starting.

There's a reason Sims hasn't pitched in a month, Moss will go in game 2.

Shane's strategy should be very clear facing Lamar. Pound the lower zone and forget about trying to paint the corners. This team doesn't have a lot of power. Small ball is their strategy. Get up 0-2, 1-2 and throw the curve down and away (but for a strike). If his first slider or two is way off the plate and low he needs to stay away from it the rest of the outing. This is where he tends to overcompensate, let the hitters back in the count, gets nervous, and throws belt high fastballs over the middle of the plate.

Anyone taking a message board comment this late in the game as intel would be, in itself, an outrage.

I'll take the under. Like I said above this is a great matchup for Sdao who throws a ton of strikes but tends to leave some out over the plate. Lamar has shown little ability to punish those mistakes. Three HR might be a season high for them.

Any updates on Sims? I cant help but wonder if this is partially a reflection of his status.

He will go game two

That has not been announced, that is assumed

Who said it has been announced? I just said he will go game two.

I'm drawing a blank but who was the pitcher that blanked Miami to get the Ags to the if necessary game in the '95 Coral Gables Regional? Sean Leonard? ColoradoMooseHerd I need your help!

To add some context this was back in the era of the six team regionals and the Ags lost the opening game to 5 Seed FIU and got into a high scoring gave against 6 Seed UMass. So by the time Ags got to our fifth game of the regional the pen was tired.

I think it was John Sneed.

Not getting that level of performance from Sdao today, unfortunately. Bats need to pick him up.

Have they not realized Sdao is NOT a starter. When you only have 2 pitches once guys see you once they've seen all you got. Tee off second and third times thru the lineup.

Should have started Darden as an opener. Then gone to Lyons and THEN Sdao. Going left, right, left to keep them off balance. Would only have let each pitcher go once thru the lineup. Oh well too late now.

Why?

Because he's a low-risk wildcard.

If he shows up, he can be great (seriously) and we still have everyone else on deck.

If he struggles like he has this year, then it's ok because it's Lamar. We have other tools that can help win the game.

Shane was so good two years ago. I'm sure it must be incredibly frustrating not to be able to pitch on that level now. I feel sorry for him.

Sadly, the harsh reality is that the young man is a shell of his previous self since his surgery. He's not been the same since then. He's more of a liability than an asset, and he knows this. For the sake of the team, Early needs to sit him for the rest of the tournament.

Doubtful that will happen. Shane is a reliable strike thrower with decent velocity and good movement on his breaking pitches. He's got to quit throwing belt high pitches down the middle of the plate though. Yesterday I thought he was roughed up, at least to a degree, because Kelly appeared to call for too many consecutive fast balls.

Sdao has become one of the most hittable lefties I've ever seen. On his good days he throws a lot of strikes, but nothing he throws is plus stuff. There is zero confidence when he gets 2 strikes that he's going to put someone away. He can't get guys out and he can't give you any length. He simply cannot start games going forward this postseason if we make it out of the regional.
