To each one's own. I guess you'd rather lose with nice guy coaches who "get A&M" than be a cutthroat athletic department and win with a coach who comes across as a "jerk." This is part of the mentality that has held us back. I just want at bare minimum ONE title in football, baseball, or men's basketball before I die (late 20's right now). But I know to you there's other more important things in life.

Hah. That was never going to happen. That's having your cake and eating it, too.

Never understood that saying.
What good is having a damn cake if you can't friggin' eat it?

Tony V is a jerk. We need somebody better than that.

We were all fine with the POS hire knowing he was a jerk too

Did we know he was a jerk before he came here? I didn't I guess others did from his tenure at TCU. But I never liked his attitude when he was here either. Does it mean he's not a good coach but I never cared for him personally. And the way he left here showed his true character. Which is not good. I guess for some winning makes it not important, but it bothers me. Never had that sell my soul mentality. To each their own.

Will we be the 80th team ever next year to take the national championship? Who knows.

Schlonggobble was a well known super-dewsh, as a person.

In all of his career changes, has he ever had a player follow him to his new destination?

Anyone who would take POS and those overhyped kids at tu is not a true Aggie in my opinion. Our boys represent the university well, and that matters a lot. The same goes for our softball girls; I wouldn't trade them for tu's girls.

As explained to me, modern world is using the phrase incorrectly. Also let them eat cake is used completely wrong too.

Interesting point. I didn't pay attention to him very much at TCU. After his little bull**** there in 2024, even many of the media were coming down on him. Interesting that he was known as such an ass.

He really does fit in for the sips then.

I think Georgia takes care of them this weekend.

Last year he played four more games on the year, maybe he'll play six this time.

I am a San Francisco Giants fan

Oh my dear Lord, why?

j/k… support who you want. I've just never had any interest in any of the California teams.

We can argue all we want about what happened two years ago.

We had a coach leave who didn't want to be here and wanted a roster to stay

That said no player has followed him from TCU or TAMU to his next stop.

But it doesn't matter. We currently have is a coach who took his team to regional host and 12th seed after a rough first year that the roster IMO wasn't as good as people think it was with injuries but that is another debate to which we don't need.

He isn't leaving after this season. Maybe after next year if 2027 doesn't go well. Better to follow to portal and draft rather than argue about what it's from two years ago

People will spend all off-season & the entire sesson talking about how good our players are then turn around and say they actually sucked when it's convenient to defend the coach

One rumor said we never kicked the tires with O'Connor because of his buyout (which dropped by the time State hired him). If true that's embarrassing. Also, was Earley's stance "HC or bust"? If he was coming back to be Vaughn's #2 then I think that would have kept the roster. I know the past is the past but I will always be curious.

Earley wasn't going to quit Schloss's staff to come be an assistant for Vaughn.

You don't know that. He has young kids. Did not want to move. My understanding is he and Vaughn also are friends. As long as we paid the same.

They fumbled up the whole thing last year when they were looking at Vaughn again and then got distracted with O'Connor.

Suffice it to say their track record is pretty bad at baseball coaching review the last two summers.

I was an extremely early pot banger for Vaughn. Even when it seemed like I was on an island back then. When POS took off, the board was buzzing with prospects of course but Vaughn was the ideal one in my eyes. Get us everything we could have wanted AND was an actual feasible get IMO. Young, proven up comer, had some ties to the school already, wasn't completely settled in at Bama yet, highly respected, and maybe best of all, could have been had for probably pretty cheap. Comparatively speaking of course. At the time though just seemed like there was crickets. From both the admin and this board in general.

Granted, I know that is all water under the bridge at this point. What happened two years ago should not keep us from making sure Rob's phone number is always up to date though. Just never know if Earley stumbles next year. It'll just be a LOT harder to pry him from Bama now. If it is even possible. That feasibility I mentioned before, is pretty much gone now in my eyes.

Word on the street said we were planning to make an offer to Skip Johnson back in 2024 but backed out due to the players not being behind him.

That was the choice, once Vitello (and maybe O'Connor) said no: Rebuild the entire roster with Johnson or Vaughn, and see some of those guys move over to Austin, or, keep the band together by hiring Earley.

None of the players were following POS to Austin. Not one. They jumped in the portal until they saw who our next coach would be. Trey's dumb ass fell for it hook line and sinker. If we'd have hired Vaughn or O'Conner, they would have all been back

I liked Vaughn, and would have been fine hiring him, but thinking that Earley would unhitch himself from Schlossnagle in order to entrust his career trajectory to a guy pretty close to his same age is rather naive. Once the players declared for Earley, that was not a realistic possibility.

The strangest thing in this whole deal was Nolan Cain. This would have been a situation tailor made for the top assistant to stay behind as the continuity candidate, but, he opted not to pursue the job for reasons I do not understand, and we ended up with not the first assistant, or second assistant, but, instead, the third assistant coach.

It also presumes Vaughn would have been willing to punt his hitting coach Papio who Vaughn brought with him from Maryland to Bama. Papio was with Vaughn for all 5 years at Maryland and Vaughn was the one who who put him in his current role in 2021.

With the start he has had with the Giants, I don't think Vitello's departure from there will be his doing.

I just don't have a clue what SF's philosophy is on firing managers. Just off hand, I get the feeling they are one of the more stable MLB teams when it comes to that.

If Vitello could lead us to the promised land, the ideal scenario would be that the Giants continue kicking around like they are this season (around 0.400) and then get off to a slow start again next season so that he gets canned in May. Then, Earley has a slightly worse year than this for the Ags (maybe hosts a regional, maybe a 2-seed) and doesn't make it out of the regional.

You want us to not be better next year so we can get a coach who may or may not be available rather than actually doing better and making a super and or Omaha.

Hmm. You must really hate Earley

Not what I said at all. Just running out the best possible scenario for the Vitello crowd to have their dream come true.

We all want A&M to win but everybody has their own opinion as to how we achieve that. I hope Earley can and will succeed. The only question is can he get enough positive momentum in the program to earn enough time to learn what he needs to learn to win it all.
