All-there have been numerous post on a variety of different topics related to supplements that could possibly help everyone combat COVID-19.

I have yet to see a summary topic for this topic but I feel it is an important subject and would help many on this board as to what is being recommended and perhaps what everyone has adopted into their preventative strategy to boost their immune systems.

Here is a link to a site that has done a great job consolidating many of the supplements as well as the research associated with their potential efficacy located at the end of the article.

https://www.rohtos.com/blogs/news/novel-coronavirus-covid-19

Personally I have been utilizing the following:

2-3 cups of Matcha Green Tea per day (EGCG)
1 scoop Green Vibrance Super Food (https://shop.vibranthealth.com/products/green-vibrance?variant=47532601732) - been using for years in smoothie
2g of Quercetin per day
3000mg of Ultimate Monolaurin (95% Lauric Acid) per day-will increase in case of infection
1500mg of Omega 3 FA (820 EPA/540 DHA)

Like I stated before, it would be interesting to see what everyone else is using and perhaps this will help others be more informed and engage with their physicians on a regimen that works for them.

Looking at that list, I would predict that most docs would respectfully point to a lack of evidence necessary to recommend for or against any of it. One thing to consider with any supplement is interaction with prescription meds.

Not a doc but it's obvious to me that some people have locked themselves completely away and are getting 0 time outdoors. As a human being of American origin, in 2020, I'm certain this is not sustainable.

Most doctors would recommend what they feel could be beneficial based upon research or from their first hand experience for sure.

The purpose of this forum was to provide a consolidated list of supplements, their supportive laboratory research as shown at the end of the article in the link for reference and further education, and some firsthand accounts to what people are currently taking..

Every person should consult their physician or medical specialist before taking any supplements even if they see a recommendation from an MD on a forum for a supplement.

Agreed as Googling articles would have you buying a supplement store.

Most of what you truly need as a foundation comes with a heathly diet of fresh vegetables and fruits along with proteins and some naturally occurring carbohydrates but this is extremely challenging for most people in regular times.

The Green Vibrance is how I combat this challenge of getting many of my nutrients from a natural source versus a multivitamin hence why I included it in my list.

LEJ-i have not seen any studies related to your comment as of yet but stay in place/shelter in place should not stop people from going in their yard to just sit in the sun or do some yard work. Even if you live in a apartment, most people have the ability to sit outside on a small patio.

I'm using steam! Facebook told me to do it......

"I just heard first hand that a doctor who had Corona virus recovered in double quick time. He inhaled Steam just as we normally would in a bowl with towel over head.

Steaming raises the temperature of lungs, throat and mouth so that if the virus is already there it gets inactivate due to high temperature.

Please also pass this information for the benefit of others."

This is a new one to me as it relates to COVID-19. Have never seen research on this one.

There's only anecdotal evidence for this cure.

But I'm willing to give it a 30 trial!

Vitamin C and Zinc.

Don't care to know if it works and anyone taking supplements shouldn't either if it eases their anxiety.

Anxiety can be just as detrimental to your immune health in combating CV-19 than a bad diet.

3-4g Vitamin C (pure ascorbic acid + Camu Camu powder - latter has 1g per tspn).
Foods/teas high in quercitin, D, & zinc
Turmeric & ginger (mostly fresh squeezed in carrot/beet/apple juice that I make)
Otherwise balanced diet high in polyphenols/antioxidants
Probiotics/kefir for gut health
moderate exercise outside 4-5 times a week

(Was doing elderberry until I saw contraindications from multiple sources that, for this particular virus, it could add to cytokine storm that many experience)

It was tongue in cheek to illustrate the foolishness that is Facebook. I even used the laughing/crying emoticon and staph took it down.

Curious here. Does your regular daily multi not contain Zinc? They usually already have a good-sized amount

Vitamin D3 (I am deficient - already taking it) (will stop if start feeling ill)
Vitamin C - was 250mg normally, starting today upping to 500 mg
Zinc - on day 3 - 25 mg
Quercertin with Bromelain - 400mg
Melatonin- 5-10 mg per night

I need to see if we have green tea. I'm not a big fan but could drink it if needed. I know ideally it would be good to take more mg of these - but I have a weak stomach and do not do well with vitamins. The first day on Quercetin and Zinc was not pleasant.

I'm guessing your comment was taken down because you were being an *******. This has nothing to do with Facebook, even Doc Reveille has recommended some of these vitamins. Maybe they help, maybe they don't, but there was no need for your ******** comment.

I find it amazing how the medical industry, led by the pharmaceuticals, generally denounce vitamins and supplements. An avalanche of studies have been launched to disprove that any of these work, and a massive PR machine is built to ensure we all know these have been "proven" to do nothing while some are labeled as potentially harmful.

Then, when everything hits the fan, you find doctors recommending them, albeit specific ones for the times we're in.

How should we interpret this apparent dichotomy?

Yes it does...11mg. Ive been taking add'l 30mg for past few days. 3mg melatonin before bed. Not sure if or how much quercetin I will take. I have about 100 doses of acetaminophen in reserve and about same quantity of Dayquil with acetaminophen (im aware of risks of taking too much acetaminophen)

I eat moderate amounts of healthy fresh whole foods. Am abstaining from alcohol and get good daily vigorous exercise. Get 7hrs of sleep every nite and occasional daily nap.

Fortunately I'm still working from home...its a good diversion from boredom and inevitable (slight) fear factor

Im cool

Quote:

The possible beneficial effects of melatonin as adjuvant use in COVID-19 in anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, immune response regulation has been repeatedly demonstrated in respiratory disorder models induced by infections and associated complications. Melatonin has a high safety profile. Although the direct evidence of melatonin application in COVID-19 is unclear, both its use in experimental animal models and in studies on humans has continuously documented its efficacy and safety and its use by COVID-19 patients predictably would be highly beneficial.

Well, I'm definitely adding melatonin.

I'm curious if cinchona would be useful at all. I happen to have some thru a random occurrence, but my thoughts are that it likely wouldn't be helpful.

Quinine is derived from cinchona bark, and chloroquine is essentially a synthetic analog to quinine.

But the mechanism for efficacy of chloroquine (and hydroxychloroquine) against COVID-19 seems to be that it is a zinc ionophore, which is a different mechanism than its anti-malarial effects, from my understanding.

I have no idea if cinchona/quinine is a zinc ionophore.

Good studies aren't designed to prove disprove the efficacy of a supplement. They test a hypothesis. In this case they compare supplements to controls and report what the data finds. To this point most good studies don't show clinically significant benifit of most supplements. As far as recommending these supplements at specific times, I don't know a ton of docs that are doing that. I recognize that one poster here does, but if you read his post you'll note that he specifically points out a lack of evidence for the supplements. Rather its a statement of it probably won't hurt and might help.
