Quercetin-rich foods such as asparagus, elderberries, blueberries, cranberry juice, okra, water cress, onions, etc.

I also take Vitamin C, and elderberry gummies. I will discontinue use of elderberry if I get a fever. They do contain high amounts of quercetin. I also have zinc lozenges and quercetin to use in case of exposure or fever (I will plan on using an N95 mask as soon as my local community has more than two cases).

FYI on elderberry:
Quote:

Sambucus nigra (Elderberry): There is preclinical evidence that elderberry inhibits 22
replication and viral attachment of Human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63) , different than COVID-19, but a member of the coronavirus family. Sambucus appears most
effective in the prevention or early stage of corona virus infections. Sambucus
significantly increases inflammatory cytokines, including IL-B124 so should be discontinued with symptoms of infection (or positive test). An evidence-based systematic review of elderberry conducted by the Natural Standard Research Collaboration concluded that there is level B evidence to support the use of elderberry for influenza25 which may or may not be applicable to COVID-19 prevention. Typical dosing of 2:1 elderberry extract is 10mL -60mL daily for adults and 5mL-30mL daily for children.

I've been using Cold-eze brand cough drops that contain zinc when I get a cold, and my colds only seem to last about 4 days if I start early enough. Serious question: does method of ingestion make any difference at all?

Good studies aren't designed to prove disprove the efficacy of a supplement. They test a hypothesis. In this case they compare supplements to controls and report what the data finds.
Ok, I'll give you that "good studies" are run as you've described.

But, Big Pharma has "independent" researchers run "studies" anytime they feel their revenue stream is being threatened. They spend fractions of millions on these studies to protect billion-dollar revenue streams. It's a drop in the bucket to have someone prove whatever you want.

EDIT: To add first line of response.

Got it. Mine has 25mg Zinc, 300 mg Vitamin C, 1600 IU Vitamin D. I figured that's enough and no need to take more?

In addition to my prescriptions, I take 5,000 IU of Vitamin D daily (I'm rarely outside in the middle of the day) and a "Super Vitamin B Complex".

I'm also trying to spend more time in a very warm room. My body temperature has typically remained at about 95 to 97 since my thyroid quit. So I moved a space heater in the bedroom and let it keep the room quite warm while I sleep. And spending more time there means I'm getting more sleep.

I've been told by a couple of others who are older that when they start feeling ill they turn a heater on and keep it as hot as they can stand and that they almost always feel much better the next day. Of course, that could just be coincidence, but it doesn't hurt to try it.

I don't know if this counts as a supplement but in addition to my original post, I am jogging 12-16 miles a week as well. This is helping on a number of fronts, but I think it truly helps most as an outlet for stress/anxiety in my case.

I always use Cold-eze at first signs of a throat twitch and 4 days is actually a longer time for me.

As I understand it, a lot of the effectiveness from Cold-eze is that it coats your throat in zinc (Zicam for the nasal passages) so the virus actually just dies on contact before it can do any harm. The benefit of added zinc in your system is a bonus.

I've been taking one cold-eze in the evenings.

Enough people to make vitamin C a hot topic in the field of critical care

I still can't believe Paul Marik duped people into thinking Vitamin C was actually a viable therapy for sepsis. I'm assuming the several RCTs that were subsequently published will put that nonsense to rest.

Nevertheless, that saga is an excellent lesson regarding the importance of high quality evidence.
