I've got some bad news...Aggie95 said:
The notion that it will be a "very long time before we return to normal". There's a lot of nuance to that statement and subject to one's version of normal. We can't wait for a vaccine or testing before we gather in large groups again. We can't wait for that stuff before returning to business travel and going out to eat. Like she said, that is 12-18 months away. My opinion is there will be anarchy and war before that kind of time frame is reached.
After reading through it a second time it wasn't quite as bad as the first pass. I do get the sense that if you asked her about Midnight Yell, Aggie Football, etc...she would say 2021 at the very earliest.

This virus has made one thing very clear, most people don't read past the headline.Aggie95 said:

Like the poster above said it will be anarchy before that happens. Humans, especially Americans citizens, are not going to stay isolated for that long. At a minimum people are going to start having house parties and meetups. Theres no way social distancing lasts another full month.Duncan Idaho said:

I recommend you read some alternative views, millions will not die, the current stats do not support this.

Why would they be "selfish and idiots"? Because they hate being under house arrest, being told they aren't essential and want to not be unemployed?Duncan Idaho said:Larry Lajitas said:Like the poster above said it will be anarchy before that happens. I agree people are selfish and idiots. We will try to open to early, people will die by the thousands this summer and it will scare The **** out of everyone. The fall/winter lockdown will make this week like child's play.
Without testing, tracking, isolation or an effective treatment or vaccine 100,000s if not millions of people will die before this is over.

That is such an extreme statement and you have nothing to back that up.Duncan Idaho said:Larry Lajitas said:Like the poster above said it will be anarchy before that happens. Many people still haven't grasped the reality of the economic situation and what will be required, and that is to return to as normal as possible with some alternative restrictions.
These kind of highly slanted opinions are just as stupid as people claiming millions will die. You also have nothing to back that statement up.Jbob04 said:OlSarge92 said:

It's unbelievable how many people think we can just keep going like this without total economic failure and becoming a third world socialist country. If this country doesn't open up soon, we will reach the point of no return.

You gonna disappear after this is over, just like you did after the Astros championship and months and months of you spreading your Eeyore BS? God, I hope so.cone said:
but he does
350 MM people
0.7% IFR (conservative based on current findings, although serology testing is the key we don't have)
assume 40% to herd immunity (which is likely the low end)
that's right at a million dead
now that's a million dead estimated to get to herd immunity, but how long would that take in a society with mandatory mask requirements, moderate social distancing measures (no large gatherings), no schools? under those circumstances, it would likely take far longer than it will take to develop a therapeutic that takes the hospitalization rate and eventual IFR to something less terrifying to the vulnerable population (which is not just people in old folks homes).
I'm pretty optimistic that we'll get a legit treatment/prophylactic in the next 4-6 months. it's still going to be a killer bug, but the paranoia will start to break.
