where does "I follow the science" rank
I think following the science probably means making some adjustments. If the in laws were coming, we'd be a bit extra cautious to ensure safety. We'd gladly have friends our age over and do parties with them. But, science doesn't mean be completely reckless.

And I'm as open it all up as it comes. It should come down to individual choices. But, science isn't saying everyone go party. It identifies the risks, especially of those over 70.

Thanksgiving just like normal, 30+ people. Not scared.

Well first you claim that the "2 weeks doesn't have an end in sight", which completely ignores the vaccine rollout.

And 2nd, not only did you tell the poster they are acting privileged by making their own risk assessments, you told them their "incremental thinking for the past 4 months has been wrong once you review it objectively".

Considering your forecast for the # COVID deaths is going to wind up being wrong by over 100,000, maybe you should consider that what you view as "objective facts" are really "objective opinions" and trust that the poster in question can handle their own risk evaluation.

Even if we want to pretend like your mathematical analysis and projections are correct (which based on your sub-200k death toll projection, we have no reason to believe they are), to somehow act like you are qualified to determine what one Thanksgiving or one Christmas or one month is worth to someone when it comes to their risk tolerance is downright pompous.

I've got no issues with those taking it extremely safe this holiday season. I've got no issues with those taking things completely normal this holiday season. People can make their own risk assessments. It's ridiculous to tell someone they are wrong in those assessments.

My forecast, i'm assuming you have that handy to post since you have made that claim numerous times. Please share away. Also i will gladly contest that fewer than 200,000 people in the US have died DUE to covid. Quoting a bloated number doesn't make one right.

The bold is a flat faced lie or extremely poor reading comprehension. I called him privileged because of his ability to isolate himself without fear of income on land he privately owned. His line when read indicates that he thinks others should follow the same course. Perhaps he wrote his sentence poorly.

Well I 100% stand by the fact that the assessment of an event by looking at the next 2 weeks without historical and future analysis will generate the wrong conclusion.

The vaccine rollout. When is that exactly? Please be specific as to when the vaccine needs to be rolled out in order for you to justify the decision. Cone has already said he/she isn't returning to normal till Q3 2021.

It is ridiculous to expect someone posting on a message board should not be called to defend his/her posted position. It is almost like people don't understand what the word "discussion" in discussion forum means. If you wanted to just post your thoughts without feedback find the proper avenue but this isn't it. So stop keyboard warrioring.

Flying to be with friends our own age and kids. No parents this year. Too close to a vaccine to have a slip up now.

Drove down to Rockport. My parents are driving in tomorrow so it will be four of us for thanksgiving.

Don't have everything we need down here yet for full blown traditional meal so probably going to do tamales and enchiladas. Housekeeper makes and sells the tamales and my wife makes fantastic enchiladas.

I've been camped out in a small Utah mountain town since May, working remotely on some projects. Will spend my Thanksgiving backcountry skiing, but had a turkey mailed in from Harlingen ( Unfortunately Greenberg Turkey out of Tyler had a fire and lost their inventory ).

We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

Plan was a big family gathering in East Texas lakeside cabin Today - Friday. Parents are 70+ with heart conditions. 11 adults and multiple kids aged 1 - 17 under one roof. Wife started having second thoughts last Thursday. I caved on Saturday. Still bummed. First time in 25 years I won't go home for Thanksgiving.

Couldn't convince her that our exposure from the 150+ students we see every day was a bigger risk. Oh well. She nurses our 1 year old son, so I understand.

Rest of the family is still going to get together. We will be in the yearly family pic via a damn Zoom call.

best laid plans.....

I was 'exposed' - more than 6 ft, everyone masked, but in conference room for 2 hours. That person tested positive 2 days later. So I'm quarantined till Dec 4, says the doc at urgent care, even after a negative rapid test.

Oddly (or maybe not? I don't know anymore) my family is not quarantined, so my kid can go with the band on Friday to HS football game. But I can't go.
