Parents are coming over if Dad isn't sick. He went to a big holiday party Thursday with absolutely no precautions. Normally I wouldn't care but my biggest priority is keeping my kids in school. At least there's a week between that and Thanksgiving to show symptoms.

Went to a large 150 person wedding over a week ago in Austin. No masks. Nobody got sick. It's a crap shoot. We were going to be with Friends at Thanksgiving but 2 of them got Covid. So alone with my wife on Thanksgiv8ng but with my elderly Mom and Aunt on Friday. They are elderly and may be their last anyways.

Visiting my parents is the plan. We also have family that's too scared to visit.

I got married in October, similar situation. We did the ceremony outside to accommodate the few people who were scared. Inside, no masks, packed dance floor. It was a great time, and no one got sick.

One of my groomsmen's wife only attended the ceremony because of the virus. She and him and their baby all got it last week. They're fine.

#2, with my parents (82 and 77), brother, BIL/SIL, and FIL/MIL hopefully (70 and 66). Total about 10 of us. Nothing will be outside.

Just staying home. By myself.

Apparently any travel outside the local area buys me a 14 days quarantine, and I can't miss that much work/shift that much work load to others. I haven't taken any leave or seen family in over a year.

The Navy/Marine response to this has been absolutely shameful.

You have no idea.

I don't mind the sacrifice and get past these last two big hurdles (Thanksgiving and Christmas). I'm banking on the vaccine rolling out soon. What is the big deal about Thanksgiving anyway? I get Christmas.

Normal Thanksgiving. This whole thing is absurd.

God bless everyone on here no matter your personal risk tolerance. Be thankful for every day you and your family have on this plane.

Normal Thanksgiving, sister in-law and her family have not seen other people since March so we are spending time with my side of the family and some friends. We are all healthy and the kids will love playing together.

A question you should ask yourself.

If told 6 months ago you would have experienced intermittent lock downs, mask mandates etc for the next 6 months and that you would not have thanksgiving would you have been on board? I fear that too many people are making the mask/isolation decision based on 2 weeks of thinking. Once you realize that incremental decision making is vastly inferior for a myriad of reasons to long term thinking you will realize 2 things.

1st the 2 weeks doesn't have an end in sight.
2nd your incremental thinking for the past 4 months has been wrong once you review it objectively.

The 2 weeks to slow the spread is about changing the way people think about the virus not about actual science. If it was about science we would all know the latest ICU rates at our hospitals but that narrative flew by in a few weeks when the data didn't support the fear. Further slow the spread =! (Not equal) limit the spread. The same number of people are going to get covid under both scenarios. The question is, are you going to be a shut-in driving yourself and family to depression before catching it or are you going to live life.

#2. Inside. One on T-Day. one on T+1. But all with people that we have had extensive contact with for months now. My mom and dad will sit out this year b/c of age and health conditions.

I just don't see it as that big of a sacrifice. I'm limiting my exposure to others, but staying very active outdoors. I'm out playing sports with my kids, walking the dogs, working on a ranch, and fishing at the coast. Those sure aren't leading me to depression. It's been my approach since March. There are a number of reasons I feel the sacrifice is not only the right choice for me, but also for others.

1) I have a very serious genetic heart condition. My doctors highly recommend I don't get COVID.

2) My wife takes care of her elderly parents both of whom are high risk.

3) This last one can be debated, but I'm a believer that the more people that get it turns into exponential spread which greatly increases the odds of someone at high risk getting it. So, yes I realize 99% of people will be just fine I'd rather not be add to the spread to those who would not be. So, I'm thinking about others as well.

I'm not going to get in a big debate here, but I'm a bit surprised that many can be so self centered.

Um why is it the right choice for others. Everything you listed was all about you. But since you brought up others let's look at them.

1. Children are falling behind majorly in academics, especially the "at risk" who likely have little to no education support at home.
2. By increasing the duration of the pandemic you increase the economic costs experienced. This is especially harmful for small businesses.
3. You mention you have a ranch and a yard, try to think how you are likely in the top 10% maybe 1% financially and not in anyway experiencing this from the average American perspective.
4. Speaking of average Americans they have been financially ruined and are forced to go into the "risk" in order to keep your privalege butt alive.
5. What is the science of that thought. Because it sounds rather emotion driven and void of any logic.

So you can say it is the right choice for you, but don't for one second think you have any leg to stand on to think it is the right choice for others.

Going to fogo de chao with our clan (6). Not worried about it because we have hand sanitizer and we're all adults now (well, son is 17) who can read/think logically on our own.

I think he means his choice is the right choice for others, that he is protecting others with his personal choice.

will not be with agsons for first time in years on Thanksgiving-partly covid and partly because agmom is having foot surgery tomorrow and will be in a light cast for about 6 weeks on very restricted duty ... SO

she and I will be driving to cabin on Richland/Chambers on Turkey day and plan to get turkey takeout in Victoria (about 1/2 way from home in south texas) for lunch then just the two of us for the weekend - she has her honey do list prepared and has her "get er done" finger warmed up !
