I haven't dug into this enough to feel like I can form an opinion about this m-RNA tech for myself and certainly not for anyone else.

My questions have been more about the testing process.

I'm puzzled as to why we didn't do more extensive testing before this point. I get that many consider it unethical to do live challenge tests on humans. To do those double blinded you would have to expose un-immunized and immunized patients with the virus. With a potentially deadly disease this is obviously dangerous. But when you do the Phase 3 testing what is really different? It seems like you just add a randomness factor to who actually gets exposed. So how is this not just an uncontrolled version of a live challenge test?

Take the Pfizer Phase 3 trial. They tracked 44,000ish (22k placebo, 22k vaccine) to observe 325 infections (275 Placebo arm, 50 Vaccine arm). Is there something gained by this approach over a live challenge trial with say 200 participants (100P, 100V)?

Perhaps the big difference is to look at vaccine safety in the larger cohort. Yet if that is the case, I'm not sure that a less than 6 month window shows much. Maybe not enough to warrant an uncontrolled "Phase 4 sorta live challenge trial" with 10-300 million participants.

There is a reason this is still considered Emergency Authorization. And yet some people want to mandate it at this point?

Live challenge testing would have better characterized the disease prevention benefits and potentially allowed more extensive characterization of the immune response and disease progression. Exposure types and virus levels could have been a small component of the testing as well. The point being if we had a better grasp of the benefits, the unknowns around longer term vaccine safety might be more palatable.

Anyway, maybe I'm looking at this wrong or missing some ethical issues......

It does look like someone else had a severe allergic reaction to it again.

My son had a critical adverse reaction years ago to the Measles shot at about one or one and a half. As I was dressing him, it suddenly looked like he had been dipped in boiling water. I not only hit the call button in the room, I put my head out and called for the nurse. She instantly got the doctor in and they started pouring liquid benadryl . I said that is way over the quarter of a teaspoon dose and they told me his throat was starting to swell. They kept him almost all day and gave him other things that were probably the ancestor of what is in epi pens.

Move ten years later and he had an extreme reaction to bee stings. Eyes wound up swollen completly shut and it took several days for them to open like for a kitten.

I am guessing he should NOT take the shots and hope for herd immunity?
