I wouldn't enjoy wearing a bra either
I have always told my wife that it's good I am not a woman as I'd never wear a bra. My argument is, just get double Ds and that should take care of the support issue and a bra isn't needed. That's how it works, right? In my fantasies at least.

I think that the issue here is that it depends on the person. Is a mask the end of the world? Hell no. But I do think they irritate some people while wearing them more than others. Maybe its just the shape of their face or they haven't found one that fits comfortably and need to try on different types. For men like me, my facial hair presents an issue. If I shave, then the mask can rub on the newly exposed skin causing irritation. When I do not shave, the bristles of my beard start to rub fibers out of the mask and I have to itch my face more often, thereby creating a situation where I have to touch my face more often than I would without a mask. The straps start to dig into the skin behind my ears and it starts to hurt a lot. And obviously the talking thing is an issue as the mask muffles sounds. But finally, I have learned through all of this that I need to see people's faces. It really throws people off not to see expressions. It's a big part of communication and humans evolved to be able to read a face and use that to communicate before we learned language.

What I would like to see by those who are very committed to mask mandates is just an understanding that it really is a big deal to others and more than just those people "getting over it". Everyone has a different pain and irritation threshold that is very real. At the very least, respect that and understand that it maybe easier for you, but not for them.

Yes! My whole family took a trip into a store yesterday for the first time since masks were mandated. We couldn't hear each other talk and were constantly having to talk much louder than we normally would so we could hear each other, sometimes even uncovering so we could even understand. It is all so ridiculous.

I believe the mask wearing is now a regular part of SOME people's life for at least some of the year.

I completely expect that when a future flu/sickness season hits, it will be requested or mandated that people start wearing masks to slow the spread, and I wouldn't be surprised if schools and colleges will have that requirement during future flu seasons.

While seeing healthy people wearing a mask in an international airport seemed unusual during flu season, I fear that it will be more the norm.

when we're done with masks?

as far as top-down government recommendations, not this year

your mileage will vary based on the people you happen to live around

but that's been the truth since almost the beginning, especially since the NYC serology results

the populace declares when the pandemic is over

It's already being pushed to an extent but I think most of that is the fact that the powers that be are looking for anything to encourage those already vaccinated to keep masking. It's such a polarizing issue that I doubt it universally is adopted during flu seasons, but I very much see an attempt by some to make it mandatory during serious flu seasons. My problem is that we DO NOT want to limit spreads of regular illness in non pandemic years as we need to let people become immune to these illnesses as we have in the past. It's not healthy to mask if there's no need to in terms of hospital numbers. The flu doesn't overwhelm our hospital system.

For me, not until I hear the CDC and a majority of my doc buddies saying its OK to drop the mask will I feel good about dropping it. Until we move this disease into an endemic phase, we are giving it ample time to outwit our vaccine designs.

When the pandemic is over per CDC/UN, I think we'll see the legal requirements fall away in most places, but some businesses will still want to enforce it.

Gotta say I'm looking forward to wearing masks in airplanes forever... swear I get sick 33% of the time I travel.

One of the places substantial study had been done is transmission on airplanes. And it basically doesn't happen.

Since we're all into allowing the government to mandate what we wear in public. Let's mandate the niqab as well. It probably works as well as a face mask - and no one will know if you're wearing a bra or not!

What's stopping you? I used to see people on planes all the time wearing masks, pre-covid.

Not my thing, but if it helps, go for it.

Right! Last few times I've flown I had layovers. Wearing a mask all day in between airports and air planes is brutal. Felt like I got more sick breathing in my own air than I would have without a mask.

I couldn't imagine having to wear a mask the entire flight from Houston to Europe. I think I'd rather just not travel lol.

Well since I have had the virus logically there is no reason I should be wearing a mask.

But logic has not factored into any of this crap.

Just like all the kindergartens running around with masks.

ASANINE!

That's why I think all mask mandates should be dissolved as soon as the pandemic is over. People should be allowed to wear one if they want to. This is a libertarian-safe board, no?

I will be shocked if kids go back to public school without masks on. Illnesses are down in school kids in big numbers this year. I think they'll use that to push forever masks on the kids.

I sub and the teachers are way too happy about not having to deal with parents in person anymore. Send off a few more emails, schedule a Zoom call that they can control... they aren't taking their foot off the gas on this pandemic until they absolutely have too. Once they concede masks, they have to let parents in the building again.
teachers, unless unionized, aren't making any decisions. Texas protocols are driven by the TRS.

Look to your state governments.

Too bad the CDC and WHO couldn't have been around years ago to instruct "mother nature" that we should have evolved with mouth and noise coverings.

How has the human race made it this far without all of you?

Yeah I don't know why we even bother with health care and medical advancement.

Masks aren't going anywhere until there is widespread civil disobedience.
Once government seizes power it does not freely relinquish it.

Eh - you both have points. We should try to do what we can, pragmatically, to make the outcome of this pandemic better than historical pandemics. Also, mankind moves on from these things, no matter what we do, because there are factors out of our control. Biology eventually wins out.

The key is balance.

My opinion is we are not striking a good balance with this pandemic as far as communicating to people. There are no indications from communication when the end is in sight. Every change in this virus is communicated as negative. Even with the positive news of the vaccine, there are still dampers by talking about continued mask wearing for an undisclosed time and schools staying closed in the fall.

My question is, where is the hope being communicated? Give people a light at the end of the tunnel and people are much more willing to help out. Keep people in the dark and people's frustrations boil over into negative actions.

I'm tired. I know a lot of people are more tired than me. A lot of us press on, trying to do our best, but if cases, hospitalizations, and deaths plummet by this summer, and mandates are still in place with no end in site, well, I just don't know.

Sorry y'all, I guess I just needed to vent a little.

If that occurs, I think that's when the general populace will begin to ignore mandates in mass.
