My gf tested positive yesterday after finding out some girls from a bachelorette trip she went on last weekend tested positive. 18 in attendance, so far 13 positive tests. All were vaccinated well in advance. Mix of Pfizer and Moderna. Mild symptoms for most, although one apparently has some chest pain. GF only has congestion and a mildly sore throat along with some lethargy.

I have no symptoms yet. I've read its unlikely to pass from one vaccinated person to another which leads me to wonder how so many of them got it. All tested negative for their flights home, symptoms started late Tuesday and into Wednesday for most/all of them.

Variants suck. **** COVID. I was supposed to be celebrating with friends this weekend but now get to stay home for 10 days.

Edit: final tally is actually only 12 of 18. Made a mistake in counting originally.

Why would you stay home if you're vaccinated?

Another reason not to get vaccinated.

Why are you quarantining? Just get tested, and if youre negative then go on with your life.

Editing my post because I read your OP incorrectly.

Per the CDC, if you are vaccinated and asymptomatic, you don't need to quarantine even if you've been in contact with an infected person.

If vaccinated and no symptoms why would you not be fully out in the public? pretty sure your "viral loads" (as people like to say) would be impossible to transmit.

I dont get the reactions to this virus...

Would a negative test really be worth anything if I'm continuously being exposed since Tuesday? Unlikely I would test positive until after the event (tomorrow) even if I do have it now.

I will say something seems really odd about this. Basically this would indicate a complete failure of the vaccine if 13/18 folks tested positive and all were vaccinated. Vaccine failure rate is really low based on available data, regardless of which vaccine.

Hoping they aren't the index cases for a new variant.

Real question is... how many covid positive male strippers did your gf and others come into "very close" contact with?

Vaccine success rate with Pfizer and Moderna is around 95%. This was shown in clinical trials when COVID-19 was more prevalent in society.

It is much less prevalent now, so that level of vaccine failure should raise alarm bells.

Pfizer vaccine allegedly works against delta variant, but you have to wonder if that's real.

Possibly some of these gals were lying about being vaccinated? Those odds just seem crazy.

Anything is possible but they are all being very up front about symptoms, which vaccine they got, how theyre handling it, etc so I suspect not. No way to know for sure though. Its frustrating that this is a possibility but TexAgs has definitely taught me there are plenty of people willing to lie about that without regard for how it affects those around them.

well keep us updated...that would be very worrisome for older folks and such.

whether or not we believe the numbers will bear out...the 95% number thrown around was related to testing positive for Covid...not severity of symptoms.

It's also possible they've only had one dose of the vaccine.

Do you really think that 95% number will play out and be accurate as the virus mutates. Flu vaccine effectiveness is typically 25% to 50%.

The trials were very early on when Covid wasn't as prevalent and their weren't as many variants out there. How many people were in the trials vs how many people have received the vaccine? 95% effective means you basically don't get hospitalized or die but many vaccinated individuals will get cold or flu like symptoms. We need to go back to living pre 2020. We know what groups are at risk and they can choose precautions if they want.
